Got inspired the the 'LW you'd pick to beat Tommy Hearns' thread. What are the Old Master's chances here? He's facing quite a significant height, reach and weight disadvantage, but he's also one of the best P4P punchers of all time.

    Gans decision.
He would box circles around him.

The thing with that is Hearns thrived against boxers. Although, I think Gans’ style would probably be awkward for Hearns.

However, I think Gans’ power, combined with his skill, the greatest threat here

What about Dwight Qawi ? Wasn’t he 5’6” ? Seems like he’d be pretty tough for Hearns given what he did to Mathew Franklin and gave absolute hell to Spinks and Holyfield ?

The LW who beats Hearns is the infighter, take your choice. Hearns isnt losing the long game to no LW
    Duran has the best shot

Qawi was a Light Heavyweight, though. I didn't say that there is no 5'6 man that can beat Hearns.

McFarland has a chance why not? Hearns wasn't fully developed at 147 , still a tad green . Packey was going 20 rounds. I can see him getting inside of Hearns' jab

    A. No man has ever "outboxed" Tommy Hearns.................ever.

    B. That's a very bold statement to say a 5'5 LW would outbox a 6'2 WW monster with perhaps the best 1-2 in history.

    Hearns KO3

Outside of a fixed fight v McGovern nobody ever put Gans out inside 3.
Gans fought up to MW and LHW so I doubt that Hearns is too much of a stretch for him.
They call him the Old Master for a reason.

I didn't know Qawi was a lightweight, at any time
    during his fighting career....

Tommy had the dimensions of many HW's of that time though (especially once he got to JMW and MW and actually started filling out). We simply have no evidence from Hearns' career that would suggest anyone of that size would even be semi competitive.

I'll always adhere to outstanding good guy >>>>>> outstanding little guy, I can't deny Gans' greatness, I just think size and frame are relative.

    Fair enough.
Tommy Hearns' dimensions didn't stop Ray Leonard from tkoing him. Leonard's reach was only three inches longer than Gans.
Also remember that Gans fought Barbados Joe Walcott (who many consider to be the greatest WW not named Ray Robinson and arguably the greatest puncher pfp) to a 20-round draw.
