"Still" ??? Nonono... Wilder would only ever have had a punchers chance - Joshua had superior amateur pedigree and his professional resume was on another planet. Even in his prime Wilder wouldn't have been likely to win (and he knew it, that's why he ducked so hard) but now he's had his confidence knocked by losing every fight he's had against legit contenders, he'd be extremely unlikely to pull off the upset. It's this simple... AJ is without question a legit contender. Wilder is not and never was - he was a massively overhyped and overprotected can crusher... At absolute best he was a fringe contender who got lucky getting a soft title fight and a corrupt org to help him keep it. In truth, his cowardice when it came to matchmaking means the evidence of where his level was is a very low bar for a champ - cruising through journeymen doesn't necessarily make him a contender of any kind... Struggling with gatekeeper Ortiz and getting thoroughly outclassed by Parker (and losing twice to unfit Fury) doesn't suggest he was anywhere near what he was hyped up to be. Ps... Trusting consensus from ESB to be accurate is really not the best idea...
What is one of the conspiracy theories Fury critics say about Fury-Usyk not coming off yet? Here's an idea. Could be the reason that AJ-Wilder has never come off is because AJ & Eddie are aging out Wilder ! If AJ wins one or more HW belts, would he give late 30s* Wilder a title fight? With the usual one-sided rematch clauses of course * DW turns 39 Oct 22 this year.
It would seem odd to spend most of AJ's title reign begging Wilder to man up and take the undisputed fight (which he ducked just as undeniably as he ducked Pov and Whyte), only to then wait for him to age out once they're both beltless. Here's a more realistic idea: 1) Wilder's not worth fighting without a belt - not because he's risky, but because his terrible resume means Joshua's haters would have a readymade excuse to give no credit for it. 2) Money - Wilder's not a massive draw in his own right, but would want a big cut of the takings even though he's already smashed the pot by ducking for so long... If the numbers don't add up, it shouldn't be surprising if Joshua's just not interested. Realistically, probably not - he owes Wilder nothing and there's better fights to make. IMHO the only way it'd happen from AJ's side is if Wilder got another belt - but then Wilder would go right back to ducking everyone with a pulse... So it wouldn't happen.
First of all, I was being semi sardonic. More mocking anti Fury conspiracy theories. Your points are well made. However... many people until relatively recently (b4 Parker loss for sure) said this is a fight they'd still like to see, regardless of the belt status of either fighter ! One good win by Wilder and the fight will sell. Not like years ago, but it would do well.
Only the blind Fury / Wilder nuthuggers thought that. Boxing politics has created a two conference system, now the teams are playing we realise how bad one conference was compared to the other.
Exactly I still want to see Wilder gtfko by a real puncher. Not lose a decision against a featherfist and lose his opportunities against the hard hitting guys. I would like to see AJ against him if not maybe Zhang, Machmudov, Ngannou etc. Somebody with real punch power so he will get laid out cold on the canvas.
AJ took straight the best Klitschko's punch. AJ would survive even if Wilder connects and then badly beat up bronze bummer. AJ's is too good. Wilder koed glass chin Oldtiz and AJ's walkover Breazeale who has glass chin too, because his chin got worse in the end of his career. Wilder koed weak ex-cruiser weights most of the time. That knock downs against Fury means nothing, because Fury got knocked down several times, even by cruiserweight. Joshua would beat Wilder like Foreman beated Joe Frazier. No matter if Wilder connects or no. Wilder is literally the easiest match up for AJ. As somebody said, it would be a similar fashion as AJ vs Ngannou.
If he's gunshy, then it'll be less likely. But AJ will likely be gunshy, which gives Wilder a good chance still. And if AJ comes to take him out, Wilder could easily land a bomb in that process. He's not the mma fighter, far more reach, faster hands, more accurate. AJ was clearly still worried about him, otherwise the fight would have been made. AJ rejected him even after the Parker loss. The mma fighter is not a bigger fight or bigger scalp. Hearn and AJ are still scared. They're probably waiting for another Wilder loss before making it, if they ever do.
Wilder appears to have lost a lot so it would be a surprise if he napped Joshua. He still has the possibility to do it but it’s unlikely at this point in time.
His best bet is to run it back against Nichols, and even then I'd worry about him getting knocked down like the 1st fight
Even if he is an old man without a trigger anymore. I still want him to be brutally unconscious and getting carried out of the ring back to Alabama on a stretcher. Like a last goodbye. Do you feel the same?
