Canelo was favored because he's a borderline ATG

He was favored because most people predicted that Bivol wouldn't be able to knock him out and the judges would rob Bivol, which they tried to do.

Not that you're wrong at all, but shouldn't that line of thinking also apply to guys supposedly in line? Nobody really has to "earn" a shot the way guys used to have to fight their way up at least the top 10 for a shot. Now they overwhelm a few soft touches themselves and then crow for a payday. The champ should in fact face the challengers, but the challengers should at least look like challenges. It should work both ways.

Canelo has been riddled with controversy from the PEDs to the house decisions he got against several fighters, especially GGG. He’s viewed as being a ‘dirty’ champion in the sense that he has a lot of skepticism following him. That being said the Munguia fight is solid and I have no issues with it. Of course like every other fan I want to see him fight Benavidez, and hopefully that happens.

Don't play dumb, you know wtf I'm talking about. Benavidez is a former 2x champ who was the interim WBC champ since 2022 and the mandatory since 2023. When was Canelo going to properly defend his WBC title?

...And what rank is Jermell Charlo, Jermall Charlo, Munguia, and... Berlanga?

Sigh, the mental gymnastics here are ridiculous.

Canelo doesn't need boxing fans trying to justify why he isn't fighting his top contender, he actually pays people to do that.

Benavidez should fight whoever he needs to to give him the best chance at facing the champion. So that's either becoming a ticket seller or securing a mandatory position. He's actually done both at 168 and Canelo still won't fight him. At 175 by fighting Gvozdyk he puts himself mandatory for the winner of Beterbiev v Bivol and they're far less likely to duck, so that's a perfect fight for him to make.

PBC have nothing to do with this, and also they're a promotional organisation so they don't have fans, that's ludicrous.

The same energy gets reserved for fellow champions.

    So the demand for
Usyk to fight Fury (he is)
Opetai to fight Breidis (he is)
Beterbiev to fight Bivol (he is)
Canelo to fight Benavidez (Canelo won't)

I CBA listing the fights for every division but you get the point. Canelo is a champion, he should be defending his championship against the best contender. It really is that simple.

Yup Lampley has always been a biased fangirl. Worst example was during the Barrera-Hamed fight when Foreman had to put him in check.
Lampley is a recognizable voice but still a biased c**t.

    Two things:

As a champion, regarding of what you’ve done in the past, you still have to fight the number 1 contender in your division. That’s how boxing works, doesn’t matter if you are Mayweather, Canelo, or Fury.

Secondly, I think you are just trying to find any reasons you can to justify Canelo cherry picking guys like Munguia, Charlo, and GGG to avoid DB. He’s done some very good things in the sport, doesn’t mean he isn’t ducking this fight.

In a way I think a headline like this damages Canelo far worse than us calling him a duck. It basically tries to build him a crutch free from being competitive. Saying he doesn't need to cut it anymore if he doesn't have to.

    One foot in retirement talk

And it took like 2 years to get Fury Usyk made. How many years did it take for Beterbiev and Bivol to finally agree to fight? Those aren't great examples.

Exactly. Like you said they also have taken too long. So to see people defending Canelo delaying the Benavidez fight is insane to us.

Jermell was a voluntary defense. Canelo didnt fight Jermall or Berlanga. Munguia is ranked #1 contender w WBC where Benavidez is interim champ

Some people didn't subscribe to judging conspiracies and knew that Bivol had a good chance of beating Canelo.

    Man, oh man...

    "Voluntary" = NOT mandatory.

Canelo not only fought Jermell, but also tried to make "voluntary" defenses against Jermall and Berlanga, before settling on Munguia, another voluntary defense.

This was all done to avoid his "mandatory". See?

Munguia "no.1 ranking" is actually a no.2, as Benavidez' position as interim champ is a higher rank than his.

.... The problem you will keep running into is that there is no logical reason for Canelo to not have fought David Benavidez. None. You keep trying to defend the indefensible and failing to make a logical argument.
