Winnable fights for Ngannou that actually interest you?

Hurricane Hank Armstrong who held world championships in three weight divisions simultaneously, yet he lost 3 of his first 4 professional bouts

 

In other word, he just needs to learn to box. Just throwing haymaker won't cut it.

My favourite part of his fight with AJ (apart from the kayo) was when he turned southpaw midway through the first round. Like he was pretending that he actually could box. He was dropped hard not long after.

 

Yeah against Fury people said "Fury's feints didnt bother Ngannou" He didnt even react to those feints. Against AJ he overreacted. Its better to not react at all. A chin tucked in high guard planted feet moving forward cutting of the ring type of performance would suit him much better. He could take heavy blows via the guard and continue pressing his opponent instead of play boxing with them. Chisora. Miller. Etc has that type of style he needs to be successful.

 

Yeah, he needs to just stick to a simple, effective style. No need for anything fancy. He should train with Bakole and try to model himself somewhat after him.

 

At last someone else seeing both the potential and problems with Ngannou!

 

Yeah, forget the reason Ngannou was dropped on his ass. I think he should learn defense before learning anything else. I know you mentioned high guard, but that was for him to get close to land bombs. He needs to learn head movement, foot positioning, staying off line, the use a good jab and attack from angles. I figure by the time he learns all that he'll be about 45 years old.

 

Of course. He should be moving his head going in at it. But if he can reduce the punishment taken going in to ragdoll his opposition and give one back i think he can win some fights. Aka cherrypick some opponents like Wilder and sell fights as an undercard to the main events. I would like to see him again already knowing he is not going to shook the world.

 

I do see some potential, even though I wasn't one of those jumping on the bandwagon post Fury. But seeing the poor bedstead thrown under the bus by those fickle turds that predicted him to KTFO Joshua grinds my goat and makes me want to see him succeed as a boxer if only to spite them.

He's very capable of achieving a middle ground between his overperformance against Fury and his blowout against Joshua. He mostly needs to humble himself, and drop all the fancy switch hitting stuff. Hard sparring to iron out his silly habits like overreacting to feints and learning to block instead of parry would do a world of good. If he can keep his hands up and his chin tucked in, and constantly be braced for incoming shots that'll improve his punch resistance tenfold.

I don't see too much wrong with his hands. His power is very real, and his technique and handspeed weren't terrible in the Fury fight. It was mostly his footwork, specifically his tendency to throw power shots from out of range that were the real amateur hour stuff in that one. He needs to adopt a more versatile lead hand, again nothing super fancy, but just a sort of rangefinder/disrupter kind of shot that allow him to walk guys down and keep them occupied to the point where he can get them against the ropes and go to work. Again, Bakole is a good blueprint here, though Bakole's looser more relaxed style might not be a perfect fit for a more explosive guy like Ngannou.

 

Do you think AJ would have a chance in MMA against Frank Ngannou? If he would learn basic defence against low and high kicks?

 

I think mike was aware the fight against fury was more a show than a real fight so he took the opportunity to put himself on the news .

He also knew that ngannou is without a chance when aj takes it serious so he did not want to be part of the second fight .

Ngannou's biggest problem was trying to start against the St Bernard's and Cane Corso's of the world rather than the Poodles. Ngannou should start towards the bottom and build himself up. If he can do that then he should be able to reach the top legitimately in a few years.
