Aaron Pryor vs Roberto Duran at 140?

A wild puncher that neglects defense against one of the greatest and best inside fighters in history?

Crazy to think that I used to believe this to be a 50/50 fight.

My stance has changed since. First 4 rounds would be a highly entertaining fight with savage exchanges until Duran makes adjustments and absolutely batters Pryor late in the fight. Pryor's nonstop aggression would play into Duran's defense and counterpunching.

 

I don't know. I liked Pryor back in the day and he was a whirlwind, but his two best fights were against Arguello a stand up straight slower fighter that really made Pryor look sensational.

I also wonder what kind of drugs he was on throughout his career because I do not trust him nor his trainer that he had.
If he was hopped up on something, it changes my opinion of him.

 

Pryor. People leave out the fact that he could really box when he wanted to and would throw punches from creative angles.
Throw in he is heavy handed as well.

 

Pryor is way too loose to beat Duran and his immense tangibles. Duran would eventually maul him.

 

I’d love to have seen it but I have to back Duran here, as good as Pryor was at 140.

 

I can’t think of anything Aaron could bring that Duran hasn’t faced in a higher quality.

 

If were talking about the Duran of Montreal in 1980 he has to be favored over Pryor ...

 

This is almost exactly what came to mind also, Pryor was very loose and open it his attack and I can see Duran busting him up straight up the middle.

 

& there you have it. Pryor isn’t going to show Duran anything new. It’s an entertaining fight while it lasts but I doubt Pryor makes it to the final bell, & Im positive he loses.

Pryor-Chávez would be a better match.

That's exactly where he'd bust him up. Even if Pryor decides to try and box Duran gets the better of that too.

I think Pryor cemented his legacy in the Arguello Fights. Even though I still contend it says more how GREAT AA was being shop worn and up 3 weight divisions and putting on performances like that. But that is just me. I agree what some other posters have stated that Pryor could box, heavy handed, and throws at angles and was tough as hell.. And this is why he did so well against a late Alexis Arguello, Who was a long game boxer. But against a Prime Duran, this is a completely different fight. Durans defense coming in is superior to Pryor arsenal he has outside imo. I think Duran's forehead will be in Pryors grill so fast and then the infighting starts .. Its just a horrible style matchup for Pryor imo

 

I agree however I think JCC would’ve broke Pryor just as badly.
