The thing I don't understand is, Hearn has to deal with the BBBoC regularly and is a licensee himself. Surely it isn't good business sense to go against them for the sake of one average (albeit well-known) fighter?
Thanks for the response. I am still a bit befuddled, because Benn reacted appallingly badly to the result. I mentioned some of the dumb things he said and did already, there's definitely more. According to Simon Jordan, Benn even now acknowledges that he made huge mistakes in his response. I can definitely understand that someone with Hearn's influence could have made things easier for Benn. To repeat, I am not defending him. But I can't for the life of me understand how Hearn made things *worse* for Benn. My impression is that none of Hearn's actions did anything like as much damage as each time Benn opened his mouth. Am I overlooking something in particular?
Hearn knowingly fed the public misinformation full in the knowledge VADA and the BBBofC were unlikely to make any public statements, let alone go to the trouble of specifically correcting Hearn.
Eddie Hearn has pissed off so many people throughout the process surrounding Conor Benn. In fact to such an extent that I would question whether Eddie Hearn is smart ? We all know Conor Benn is stupid and out of his mind.
Hearn is a narcissistic scumbag. End of. The whole Benn saga has been a comedy of errors and lies. A few weeks before, he pulled Buatsi out of purse bids to fight Pascal because VADA testing wasn’t in the contract, yet when Benn failed VADA tests 2 weeks later he started questioning the legitimacy of them and claiming they’re not accurate. Then he started trying to portray himself as the lead anti-drug campaigner in boxing and calling out other promoters for not having certain drug testing in place. These were his comments after Saunders (who wasn’t with Matchroom at the time) failed a test before the Andrade fight… “What is the point in signing up for drug testing if, when you fail, everyone just goes 'oh don't worry about it, just let him fight', you know? The argument of 'well it's alright with UKAD' is totally irrelevant, you've signed for drug testing with VADA – the best testing agency, in my opinion, in the sport." When Benn failed VADA but passed UKAD he changed his mind to ‘but he’s passed UKAD’, the exact same thing he was criticising regarding Saunders. These were his comments regarding Buatsi v Pascal and VADA testing… “What I've got a problem with is VADA testing not being in the contract. I can't let my fighter go in with a fighter, off the back of Jean Pascal's failed test, without VADA testing in the contract." So he wants VADA in the contract but if his own fighter fails a VADA test he’ll just overlook it anyway and go with the UKAD results (the complete opposite of what he was saying after Saunders failed). Like I said, scumbag.
Put simply, Eddie sees himself as bigger than any Boxing Board, Boxing Org or Testing Committee. It can be the only logical explanation for such arrogance. That and of course the self entitled Silver Spoon. I can only guess that he doesn't like the word "No". The silly billy. Sometimes Edward, one has to take one on the chin in order to progress. It's called humility.
This is just going nowhere at this point, would be no surprise to me (and most of this forum I expect) if Conor never fights in the UK again. Harley needs to step up as he's now carrying the torch for the Benn family name in British boxing haha
Not that it's anything to do with Benn, but it shows how superficial boxing promotion actually is, now Frank and Eddie are best pals to earn a coin from "His Excellency", given how little they agreed about drug testing process last year. If it hadn't been for Jarrell Miller's past, and his own sharing of a negative VADA test, we'd have little or no idea if anyone's tested on the Saudi shows. Not that I'm implying anything here but it's funny how little it matters now. Do you think a show would be off if (say) Ngannou had tested for a 'trace amount' of egg dust?
Hearn has been undermining and attacking the board and the whole process since the day Benn's failed tests first went public. It's given Benn the foundation to carry on the way he has.
Doubt him and Hearn would care if they never fought in the UK tbh. Too busy wanking ‘his excellency’ off.
To be fair though, he has given us Wilder v Parker, Joshua v Wallin, Zhang v Parker, Bivol v Beterbiev which is more than anyone else has recently managed with fights 1-3 being very good with the 4th a future barnstormer on paper - and we all want to see it. Miller v Dubois was fun, too. Then of course, we have May 18th. Like it or otherwise, he is giving us fights that the main promotors couldn't or more likely wouldn't. Fair play to His Excellency.
A few fights have been made that wouldn’t have been ordinarily but the viewing experience is crap mate. Long waits between fights and no atmosphere. I’ll give credit where it’s due when I see Usyk v Fury and Bivol v Beterbiev happen mind.
Yeah, the atmosphere is lacking but then again, is it any different to an Inoue fight in Tokyo? Doesn't stop my watching and admiring the skills Inoue displays. I reckon as time goes by - how long this will be is another matter - the Saudi atmosphere will improve a bit although it will never ever reach the raucous heights of a UK Show on the pop! We are #1 in the world for raucous ale'd up atmospheres in sport!!
Benn even had Simon Jordan under his spell a couple of months ago when they had a meeting. Obviously the evidence still hasn’t been released that Jordan believed was going to come out. Benn is a brilliant liar.
