Is it edgy to say that George's Foreman career after the 80's come back has been massively overrated? What are his best wins from that period? Of course Michael Moorer - the lineal heavyweight champion of the world. He did very well against Cooper and Cooney but they weren't world class at any measure at this point. Rodrigues was a Top 10 contender so that's a pretty good win. But except that? Before winning back the championship he lost to Tommy Morrison and had a majority decision against Alex Stewart in the fight that you can argue he lost. Maybe we tend to overrate his great showing against Holyfield? After reclaiming the throne he lost to Axel Schulz, but was given the decision and then defended his lineal championship against the likes of Crawford Grimsley and Lou Savarese (which again you can argue he lost that fight). He was robbed in the Briggs match up for sure, but well, karma I guess. I get that he was old and it was tremendous accomplishment to win back the title at the age of 45, but let's be honest, he didn't even earned that shot. He was a cherry pick gone wrong. You can also argue he was one of the worst champions ever during his reign.
Whatever said about big George second career, he beat the man who beat the man. And at his age, sorry but that records not getting broken for a long time imo.
Also he gave a good account of himself against an ATG in his prime in Holyfield this is to me shows his class and makes you think what a younger faster Foreman would have done to Evander
I don’t think near any of this entire post is true. Foreman lost 9-10 rounds? The fight was one sided (a good showing for an old man perhaps) and no indication of how a bout with 70s GF would go chiefly because 80s Foreman may as well be a different fighter.
I don’t think he’s ever been overrated expect by a minority but that exists everywhere with everything. It was an incredible human story, He was very good but also very well managed. Old George probably the best resume he could have built at his age in such an era.
At his advanced age to even win 3 rounds against a young prime fighter of the calibre of Holyfield is outstanding and to think if he can do this in his 40's imagine a younger faster Foreman he would walk through Holyfield
He gassed out in one fight mainly because of Ali's taunting enraging him, he didn't even gas out against Holyfield when he was massively overweight
He gassed out in the Jimmy Young fight too and was knocked down because of it as well. And you mentioned 70's Foreman, not the old Foreman. Old Foreman had better stamina, strangely.
Old Foreman didn’t gas out because he paced himself better not because he had a better gas tank Do you think Holyfield could withstand a rampaging Big George in his prime
You mean the fighter who collapsed in the dressing room and had a life changing epiphany after the fight he wasn't the same fighter mentally Also you didn't answer my question Foreman vs Holyfield prime for prime who d you think wins
Well, he was that gassed, what Jimmy Young has to do with poor condition George was in in the later rounds? If Holyfield boxed like he did in the second Bowe fight, I see him winning. But it's a 50/50 match.
