Tell me what other massive fights await Canelo after he beats Benavidez? Morrell? Who's supposedly not even good enough to warrant a Benavidez fight at this point because "he's only got 10 fights" but he'll be perfectly suitable for Canelo right? Oh maybe Berlanga or Charlo everyone is already upset about even being mentioned? Maybe something at 175 woudla been in high demand had he beaten Bivol, bit he lost. Maybe you see some special fight worthy of that huge purse out there I can't imagine. I think perspective is everything. If you take what he said from a stance of hate it tells you what it tells you. Obvious messages have been sent in a small amount of words that you are missing. I shouldnt have to spell it out for you

I agree but everyone still discusses that side of it anyway. I stopped being frustrated as a fan once I understood at the highest levels it's as much a business as it is a sport and the decisions make so much more sense when you see it that way. Boxing in 2024 isn't close to boxing in 2000 or 1980 or whenever you want to shoot to when it comes to making fights.

I think it is a point of contention if he made a joke about it. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see a weight stipulation on the fight, I mean who puts themselves at a disadvantage knowingly when you hold all the cards?

Same reason why Fury is supposedly getting over 100 mil to fight Usyk, duh.

Do you consider this a massive fight or a fight against some nobody who sold 60k PPVs and brings nothing to the table?

The Saudi's strike me as size queens who are mainly interested in heavyweight fights, which is why they paid Francis so much in his first two ever boxing matches. I don't see Canelo getting the same kind of payday from them.

All the message board and social media cussing suggest it's a huge fight we're being robbed of, but his own fanbase ppv sales say maybe not. I'm not sure tbh. Because if he did bring anything else to the table he'd sell more fights, there's no getting around that point. I thought Crawford and Spence was supposed to be a huge fight and it did ok for this era i guess but definitely didn't live up to the super fight billing it had. Meanwhile Ryan Garcia vs Tank turned out to be a bigger fight with 1.2 mil buys at $85 with Garcia not being rated very highly at all as a fighter. Does Benavidez's name belong with any of the guys I mentioned?

I could see that, but it never hurts to try when that much money is waving in the wind.

Usyk Fury is honestly bigger, and 200 million is twice that it's crazy

Everyone understands all that, but we still clamour for the big fights.

Seems like a copout from you. Here's what I think:

David Benavidez isn't box office. The only reason this fight has become such a big thing is because he is the clear no.2 in the division and Canelo has openly ducked him for years. The combination of the TWO of them makes it a fight that can do 2m PPVs. THAT is what Benavidez brings to the table.

There comes a point where anticipation becomes frustration, though. Benavidez didn't have to be the last big fight; he'd BEEN calling Canelo out, was a former 2x champ, and was who hardcore fans were asking for, even as Canelo was unifying and in his prime.

Spot on. And this is what Canelo fans don't seem to grasp.

Whilst boxing is a business, it is also a sport.

This fight is demanded so much not because of how many tickets Benavidez can sell, but because of how big the fight is, seeing Canelo against a peer who has. A great chance to beat him for all his belts.

Boxing fans don't care who gets paid what, we only care about seeing the best fight each other and that's Canelo v Benavidez.

This fight is huge and it's insane that people are OK with Canelo not making it. If Canelo doesn't want to fight his top contender he shouldn't claim to be a world champion.

This has a similar buzz to when Patterson was ducking Liston.
