Emile Griffith vs Saul Canelo Alvarez, both prime, 160 lbs, 15 rounds. Could Alvarez outbox Emile? Is Griffith quicker than Alvarez? Let's hear some comments.

It would probably be 13-2… That’s not me talking hyperbole I sincerely believe Saul wouldn’t win any round Emile didn’t let him. Incredible fighter. A smart man once called him the greatest fighter of the 1960s.

I think Emile would’ve made easy work of Canelo. I do have the utmost respect for him all that he has done is incredible but Griffith was just far, far too good and far, far too clever.

Emile Griffith was a superlative fighter and it took brilliant fighters (Luis Rodriguez, Benny Paret and Nino Benvenuti) or damn lucky ones (Rubin Carter) to beat him. Canelo is good in todays boxing and would have been a contender during Emile´s day but would not win.

Emile might start this 15 rounder slow but after the first 5-6 rounds would up the ante to completely befuddle Canelo and probably punish badly over the last 4 or 5 rounds for an unanimous win.

I don't see it that way. I view Canelo as a sharper and harder puncher, an effective counterpuncher with quick hands and supreme toughness. He'd last all 15 rounds and I think he's capable of decisioning Emile.

    Canelo via 11th-round TKO

Canelo is more of a natural mw. His size, power, quick hands and elusiveness would be too for Emile to handle. Natural welterweight with a 27% KO percentage who went to wars with the likes of Benny Paret would not pose any significant problems for the Mexican great.

A lot of people may pick Canelo, but only fangirls who DKSAB. Griffith may not be able to stop the ped head, but he'd certainly outbox him for most of the fight.

Emile Griffith schools and roughs up Canelo by wide decision.

Canelo fought one fighter I'd consider "great".
And damn near lost every rd to him.
That fighter May Jr, was at his best at Jr. lightweight
not jr. middleweight where he simply schooled
    Canelo.
Griffith at his best does the same.
In 12 rd fight Griffith wins a UD. In a
15 rd fight, Griffith probably stops Canelo
    late.
Griffith fought and beat better fighters than
    Canelo is.

I don't think this is the blowout some posters do. I think it would be relatively close for the first half of the fight with Griffith starting to pull away as the rounds went on. Over 15, Canelo's stamina would fail him, and it would get more one sided. But, Griffith doesn't have the power to stop Canelo. And, I think things would be reasonably close through 8.
