Canelo finally lists his price for fighting Benavidez: $150 or 200 million

Canelo showing his ass here. 150 million price tag just says how much he actually wants that fight. Like he needs the money, lol. Just retire after this at this point if you’re just wasting everyone’s time. He really doesn’t have much to prove.

It's out there I can't do the research for you but it's there. You can pick and choose which sources to believe all day. But basically ranging from saying 100 million to Arum saying Fury would be pissed if he "only" made 100m to fight Usyk lol, to saying he will make closer to 200m that 100m, to saying a 2 fight deal with Saudis (Ngannou-Usyk) will net him around 200mil. However you want to slice it rumors have him clearing 100mil easy.

So again I pose a common sense question:
If there can be talks of Fury making this much why would it be absurb for Canelo to have talks of making that much? Where is that incredulous energy for Fury?

 

Why didn't Canelo just make a similar two-fight deal for Munguia and Benavidez if it was that easy to make someone pay you 200 million dollars?

IF he gets his way, boxing at the championship level is dead in America. The middle east is where big fights go to get made and then die. A fight like Fury/Usyk belongs at Wembley. Canelo/DB belongs in Vegas.

...It's funny how just a couple of years ago, no athlete would go near the Saudi money for fear of damage to their brand. My, how times have changed.

 

Because we're not idiots, at least I'm not. We know where that kind of money comes from. Connect the dots.

 

If we dont want our fights going over there, people gotta start buying the fights. Period. Also these promoters need to stop putting fights on ppv that don't belong 200k-300k fights should be on network tv make it a big event still. They put guys on ppv that nobody past this site even knows exist. Invest in building stars and familiarity so they can command big ppv buyrates when these big name fights finally happen.

 

It's not that simple, nor the fault of fans. There’s some blame to go around with the boxers and what they think their price is worth. Look at Tank. Demanding upwards of ten mill to fight, and yet has barely beaten anyone of note.

Ryan Garcia demands a lot and hasn’t done squat other then be popular on Social media.

Canelo asking for $150-200 mill is pointless and unrealistic. That’s a duck clear as day! Just like when Roy Jones said he’d need 100 mill to fight Lewis, no one took that serious.

And there is no more network TV. Once we lost HBO and Showtime, that was it. DAZN has proven to be a bust and unreliable. Fights on Netflix or Amazon will take time to show they aren’t going to be a flash in the pan.

A fighters purse MUST be based on what they generate themselves, as well as what the potential fight is estimated (realistically) to bring in.

And if you look at what Canelo’s guaranteed purses along with his share from the PPVS, his high seems to be around $50 mill. How the eff does someone like that insist on 3-4 times that amount?

Purses have gotten somewhat out of hand in regards to what the boxers monetary value is worth.

 

Wasn't he was a free agent? Why go back to PBC if he wanted 200 million dollars? Connect the dots.

 

Every guy you named has been part of a fight that sold over 1 million buys. Canelo has repeatedly outsold everyone else in the sport. Tank has done pretty great numbers despite not fighting who you want him to fight. All those guys are asking for what they're worth, not what people who dislike them think they are worth. We'll see how true it is with Garcia really soon too. The guys that need to undertstand their worth are the ones who haven't accomplished much or built much of a career. Everyone that gets in the ring with Canelo lately are practically getting their total career earnings in one fight, in many cases more than their career total. It's a super overlooked aspect of these conversations that needs to be considered. And I'm going tk keep saying it, if Fury can pull over 100 mil for Usyk, Canelo is in his rights to ask for a "raise" and it will be considered a duck until he gets it a few months from now, mark my words.

 

The groundwork for that number hadn't even been laid until Canelo just did it. Now it's a conversation, just watch where it goes. Benavidez promoter Lewkowicz just hours later is saying he believes Canelo will get that money. Crazy how asking works.

 

Until Canelo Alvaraz is not at a press conference for another opponent other than David Benavidez, I am not believing that he is seriously interested in the fight.

Canelo was a free agent and could have gone to the Saudis and asked for the 200 million. Instead, he signed to fight Jaime Munguia in Vegas, for considerably less than he would've against Benavidez... and used the press conference to list the reasons why he would NOT fight Benavidez.

Let's see what he does when he's free again. If he's serious about it, @sdot_thadon , surely he will reach out to the Saudis and ask for 200 mil again at the post-fight presser... right?
