Ok maybe I was being a little dismissive but in terms of British HW greats, hes more Bruno than Lewis. Not that there is anything wrong with that, Im huge Bruno fan despite his limitations. Lewis, Tyson, Bowe and Holyfield are dead certs. I think McCall beats him the same way Usyk beat him. That leaves him fighting for the 6-10th spots and there is a lot of competition there still. Young Vitali, Hide, Tua, even Bruno would be challenging fights for Joshua

He isnt a dead cert inside the top 10 but I do concede that on a good day he could be as high as 5th

He could beat Bowe, or shot Tyson.

Both would be tough fights in my opinion. Bowe could be hurt and people bring up how he didn't face big punchers but I think the Golota fights showed even when badly hurt he had the heart and recovery powers to get back up and fight on. I think the version that beat Holyfield in the first fight would have too much for Joshua, would survive a knockdown but slowly grind Joshua down and stops him late. Any version after the Holyfield 1 version probably loses.

As for Tyson, Joshua struggled with an old Povetkin, can only see him having an even harder time with early 90's Tyson. Tyson would have no problem getting inside he was great at cutting off the ring, only thing Joshua has that keeps him in the fight is his uppercut. Maybe Joshua can do what he did vs Povetkin and come from behind to score the KO but given how good Tyson's chin was and how Tyson had more power than Povetkin, I suspect Tyson takes him out before Joshua can grind him down.

Bowe was chinny. That is why he never faced a true puncher. And look at the success Golata, Holy and Hide had against him

Of course he’d be a serious problem for any heavyweight in the 90’s.

Anybody saying otherwise is a moron.

He could be hurt by punchers true but like I said he had heart and recovery ability, while Joshua can drop him, can he keep him down. Golota was literally beating him to a pulp and he just kept coming in that 2nd fight. I've not seen that type of grit from Joshua since the Wlad fight and that in part was because Wlad didn't press his advantage. I'm not sure Joshua has the gas tank to sustain the kind of assault that would be required to finish off a hurt Bowe. Bowe isn't just taking a big shot from Joshua and it's over, he'll get up and Joshua will need to grind him down, round after round until his heart gives out and I just don't see that happening.

He woule be a contender and could win a title on any given night but he'd have a major uphill climb. Too many great HWs in the 90s tk go through individual. matchups

AJ would have won a title, he'd have been top 5 but he doesn't beat Lewis, Holyfield or Bowe (well maybe the version that fought Golota).

He'd be even more roided, so probably do better.
Everyone gives AJ a hard time these days but it's really just based off the fact he got destroyed by an obese fill-in and then avoided Wilder and Fury for years. It doesn't mean he isn't pretty good and a great role model for punks.

Lewis was one punch KO'd by Rahman and McCall, let's not pretend like AJ couldn't do the same if he detonated one of his bombs on Lewis' chin. Could Lewis beat him too? Sure, whatnot? But chins is chins and power is power no matter what era you're in.

No, he would get a title from a depressed man after being loaded with boar meat, run from the rematch and go into depression himself. Come out of retirement and beat a one trick pony, cut his face, retire and become an ATG

A pretty good analysis of where AJ would fit in, and I agree.

More yesteryear bias, :shakehead: although not as extreme as usual on here.

After voting "yes" over "journeyman" it's 24:15 yes. It should be more lopsided for "yes".
I'm not an AJ worshiper, but he'd be very competitive w/most top 90s HWs. Not saying he beats everyone, but AJ would be a top contender, could pick up a belt.
