Thoughts On Buster Douglas Ko (Against Holyfield)?

I think he laid down. Not much desire going on that night, he was never going to dig deep.

 

I read a lot of military history. It’s said that morale can overcome in the neighbourhood of 75% of problems an army faces (logistics, location & terrain, number of troops, even food shortages etc). & looking at some of what has been achieved in war, I think I believe it.

Nothing is more powerful, but also more fickle, than morale. You see in the fights with Tyson & Holyfield what a vast, yawning chasm exists in what you can achieve with, & without, morale.

 

This could’ve been a really good fight if Douglas wanted to give a little more of himself, but he’d had his fill I think.

 

What do you think would be made of Douglas had he retired after Tyson?

 

I remember Holyfield saying that he see Douglas on scales and people were ridiculing him over his weight, and apparently Douglas got upset over it or something like that. Holyfield said once he see that he knew he'd won the fight.

I think he said something along the lines of "how you gonna be from the ghetto and get upset over a few people ridiculing you ?"

Douglas's heart was always a question mark he gave up vs Tony Tucker aswell once the going got tough, against Tyson after being floored for first time in his career he showed real desire and heart to comeback in the 9th round.

 

Douglas was counting the millions in his head as the ref counted to 10.

Douglas had no intention of furthering his boxing career. He looked as though he barely trained. I think he was looking for a way out. If he had shown up the way he did against Tyson then I think it might have gone the distance. I’d still favor Evander but it would have been a hard night’s work

 

It was his cash out. He barely trained, showed up and did actually attempt to fight, legitimately got knocked down, then decided "know what, I just earned enough to never work again, **** this why get up and deal with getting punched again".

 

Why get back up when you already beat the guy that really mattered, got millions in the bank from that fight AND getting more money from this fight? I mean I showed up, tried to fight and got knocked down. If people get mad at me thinking they bought a wasted ticket, oh well. They should blame Tyson and Don King for continuing to slander me (along with lawsuits) claiming the ref gave me more than a 10 second count which distracted my training and state of mind for this fight. Its their fault all this panned out the way it did.

^Douglas didn't actually say that just so we're all clear lol, but that's how I interpret Douglas's state of mind based on what we saw of the fight and an interview he did with DJVlad where he talked about the Tyson and Holyfield fights.

 

Surely since you were speculating on Douglas’ excuses you could have worked Trump in there somehow? Your own will cancel you for a missed opportunity of this nature.
