1919 Dempsey was fast as hell and would bob and weave to avoid Liston's counter shots.

 

This is a toughie. Does a railway spike trump Monsel? May the best cheater win.

Seriously, perhaps a bit of sock ‘em rock ‘em for several opening rounds but then Liston superior boxing skills, inside and outside, and consistent power take over for a mid to 3/4 KO or stoppage.

 

I’m with Hank in that I think it ends early. Definitely inside seven rounds, & very possibly much sooner. I have none of his confidence, though. This is a legit 50-50 fight in my book, & one of my favourite Heavyweight matchups as a result.

I abstained from a vote, as I can’t call it. It’s Liston’s range vs Dempsey’s speed. Both men were pretty tough & stubborn when they wanted to be, but whoever gets seriously hurt first, IMO, won’t survive.

Liston is the favorite but Dempsey is a live underdog.

 

My bad. I’m a bit plastered myself at the moment. No, that’s not true. I never drink and post at the same time - alcohol causes me to become dyslexic - so no point.

Believe it or not but some did claim a rail spike - and some mistook a cigar thrown onto the ring canvas after the fight as said rail spike which they also assumed Dempsey casually discarded by dropping it in the ring for everyone to see!
