Greg Haugen+Vince Martinez. I remember reading an article many moons ago describing Haugen as last of the cuties (or something similar) and how it was a becoming a lost art in boxing. Mentioned how he befuddled a boxer-puncher in Jimmy Paul and slugger in Pazienza, boxer in Camacho and pressure fighter in Mancini. Also in the same article was Vince Martinez who I´d never heard of before.
Holly Mims was a guy Don Dunphy used to call a cutie. He had been around a long time, knew all the subtle tricks and while he may not have been ranked in the top 10, he could make a ranked fighter look bad.
Fighters who use lateral movement…and the jab …they focus on out scoring their opponents…rather than landing hard shots
Greg Haugen is one of those fighters that you won’t “ GET IT “ …the first time you watch any of his fights
I think Greg Haugen deserves a mention. In my understanding, a cutie knows the subtle tricks, close or out, of mitigating an opponent's offense and getting in his own digs in response. It's a guy who gets by at a high level with a low level of physical talent.
Joey Archer, Ray Robinson's last opponent, was a cutie. Ralph Dupas was another from the same era. George Benton, although he could punch.
Everyone interested about what it takes to be a "cutie" should read greynotsold's post to this thread.
