We'll have to see it to know for sure but no doubt the blood effected his vision. I also think it means he couldn't adopt such a tight high guard as the high guard limits your vision anyway, so with the blood as well, using a tight high guard would of basically made him incapable of seeing anything coming, so he basically fought the fight with no guard and just had to eat punches. But I will also add Fundora did do what I hadn't seem him do before which was actually used his reach and fight from range where before he'd just give up his height. He seems to have learned from the loss to Mendoza. So no guarantee Tszyu wins a rematch as it's not the same Fundora who lost to Mendoza. Rematch is a 50/50 fight.
Tszyu couldn't use his left. He couldn't see. The hooks weren't there they were falling short. He couldn't commit properly and ate punches he otherwise wouldn't have copped. I can't wait if they face off again.
Honourable Lord of the council Tszyu may not be as great as Marvin Hagler but you should not stand by and allow these gronks to disrespect a warrior like Tim Tszyu they are rejoicing in his defeat surely you in your infinite wisdom know the kid is a warrior and deserves respect.
This. Tim damn near could’ve passed out he lost so much blood, he was streaming for 10 rounds straight. I definitely think he looked ‘weaker’ as the fight went on and not in the sense that Fundora was breaking him down
Reckon to even up the playing field they should have hit Fundora over the head with a bottle and smashed Tim in the nose
Dear Midnight Prowler my friend I think Tim showed heart and it’s to his credit he fought on with honour. With regard to Marvelous Marvin Hagler I remembered what he did with Hearns when he had the horrible cut. If Tyzu had turned it around in a similar fashion everyone would know he was great. The people rejoicing in his defeat only have leverage because of the clamour around Tyzu recently. Some were even saying Tyzu would beat Crawford and Spence.
He will. Unless there's a cut of the same mould again. Tszyu with clear vision stops Fundora gets the win at the very least everyone knows that. The only way for many to win in this world is to see others lose. That's not winning though. That's the mentality of a loser.
Fundora had a broken nose and swallowing blood. That has an adverse effect on a fighter as well. Both men fought through adversity. Both men took the fight on short notice and both men will be better prepared in a rematch. Tszyu may win, but it will not be a blow out. It's funny, you lot want everybody to praise Tszyu for showing heart, but don't give Fundora any credit for going through his own issues in the fight. Fundora may have done even better if not for the nose. He may do even better in the rematch. Something for you zoo zoo's to think about.
I was surprised by how well Fundora took Tszyu's punches; people were saying Fundora would crumble under Tszyu's power but that wasn't the case at all. Tszyu has every chance in a rematch but it certainly wouldn't be an easy night.
Tyzu lost period. Please don’t make excuses. He needs to learn from the loss like his Daddy did against Cool Vince Philips and come back a better fighter and man.
Respect to Tszyu for soldiering on with that gash. Same to Fundora for winning a title fight with a broken nose. Cuts happen, we can't take away from the better man on the night winning either. I've seen fans disregard injuries as an excuse when guys are literally having surgical procedures after a fight or saying a guy quit when part of his face is crushed in a fight. This is on the minor end of that scale. Fundora did what he was supposed to do and won. Better luck next time Tim if they even give him a next time with Spence moving into that division.
Actually, from what I’ve read, it’s the anti- Tszyu/Tszyu fan crowd that is having great difficulty analysing this fight objectively and fairly. Accidental, but Tszyu’s cut was caused by an elbow NOT a punch. Prior to and until that cut, Tszyu was in control, and increasingly so. The power right hand had found a home. Fundora was already badly damaged by Tszyu’s PUNCHES before Tim himself incurred the cut. From round 3 on, Tszyu was visually impaired - badly - due to the blood flowing down into his eyes, from the cut, CAUSED by the elbow. The incessant and increasing loss of blood would also have caused Tim further and worsening issues such as light headedness etc. I know, I know...just a flesh wound, butch it up for chrissakes Tim! A fighter CAN’T adjust to heavily impaired vision. Tszyu’s ability to both land and defend himself was unavoidably and drastically reduced thereafter (naturally - duh!). Even so, Tszyu hangs tough, doesn’t QUIT, fights as best as he possibly can given his huge handicap and sees it out - well, he couldn’t really see, could he? For ALL that screaming and due context, there are those taking false opportunity to suggest that the complexion and outcome (a complexion that U - turned after round 2, what a coincidence, what on earth happened in that round?) was proof that Tszyu is overhyped and overrated. WTF? That spells “What The Fundora”, btw. But, those same pundits are suggesting that it is Fundora who hasn’t been afforded due credit - have a better read folks, he has been - it IS Tszyu who hasn’t been fairly appraised and given his JUST due. Tsyzu didn't ram his head into the elbow either. It was moved slightly, Fundora tucking his arm in as Tszyu’s head (not a punch) headed toward Fundora’s body. Freak accident and one that also doesn’t occur without the height discrepancy, which uniquely allowed for the synchronised head - elbow contact. NO ONE’s fault - not Fundora’s nor Tim’s. I don’t think I’ve read anyone blaming Fundora for the elbow - but I’ve read a few suggesting that Tim was “mostly” to blame for it. Wow. Though he was getting busted up, Fundora’s durability was duly noted. Tim has power of course but Fundora showed some nice whiskers. The punches were hurting him but he was taking Tszyu’s right hands well - but the accumulative effect was going to set in AND Fundora didn’t up the ante of his own attack until AFTER the cut rendered Tim to be that much less of an offensive threat and that much more of an easy target. Btw, Hagler’s cut against Hearns was caused by an actual punch, correct? Try for an analogy that actually fits the bill. Further, is anyone going to categorically state that Hag’s cut was as bad as Tszyu’s for all intents and purposes? It wasn’t. Finally, we can sing the praises of Fundora’s own durability (I agree, I’m part of the choir) BUT while singing those praises, are we not going to also entertain that Fundora (an exceptional 5” taller than the already tall Hearns) might well have been harder to get out of there than Hearns was for Hags? Yeah, I think he might’ve been - just imo. So Tim should’ve quit? Wow, that’s some *** up logic. So, IF Tim had quit, that would’ve averted his being labelled overhyped and overrated? I dunno man, he doesn’t pull out of fights, he takes on a late and dangerous sub, gets cut causing him to look like a bloodied character from the movie Hellraiser (even google images are blocking related pics), BUT he doesn’t quit. Yes Timmy, we knew you weren’t all that. Haha - we were right all along..Bazinga! Future opponents of Tszyu’s will not kid and delude themselves over the complexion and outcome of this fight - they know and understand what Tim has in his kit bag - not least Fundora (a good guy) and he will again be duly wary, if/when he rematches Tim. Of course Fundora would be a tough gig in a rematch but sans freak cut, I would bet (with head, not heart) on Tim with more than reasonable confidence.
Fundora’s broken nose was caused by Tszyu punching him. Tszyu’s cut was caused by a freak accident so there is a difference lad.
