Not that it's an argument in a debate, but just to play devil's advocate, Ali had to climb off the deck against the killers like Cooper and Banks.
But Holmes did things that Mike Tyson never did....Holmes got off the canvas after being decked...and came back to win that fight...can't say the same for "Iron" Mike...
But it's a topic where we compare Holmes to Ali, not Holmes to Tyson. Majority of this forum would agree Holmes should be rated higher than Tyson.
Heard an old man several years ago on a different subject talking to a younger guy who said so and so was the best he'd ever seen. The old man said ", the best you've ever seen is nowhere near the best I've ever seen"
A quite green Ali in both instances, & a prime or thereabouts Holmes. But more to the point, I was of course being somewhat facetious in mocking the margin between Ali & Holmes on résumés. Holmes is quite over-rated by many, in my view. Certainly an ATG, but close examination of his CV isn’t pretty reading. He needs to come in for more of the treatment Marciano gets from his detractors.
