I think it's undeniable that the cut affected the way the fight progressed and enhanced Fundora's chances. That being said, I also firmly believe that the cut and the inability of Tim to adjust in any way showed that Tszyu is a bit one dimensional. I am a fan of both guys and thought Tszyu would win the fight. I believed and still believe his extremely effective body attack is tailor-made to stop the Towering Inferno. I think Tszyu will win a rematch but all credit goes to Fundora for taking advantaging of the circumstances, overcoming the effects of a first round broken nose and winning the fight. Here's to hoping for a rematch.
That's the thing though mate, it's highly likely that Tim couldn't adjust. With his vision impaired as it was it looked to me as though he reverted from what was working to trying to KO Fundora quickly knowing that he had to stay out of range because he couldn't see. You may well be right that Tszyu is a little bit one dimensional but I am not sure we can assess that from this fight.
All credit to Fundora for winning the fight, but TT had many strikes against him which we all know including a last minute opponent that was completely opposite of the guy he was training for, the huge blood flow into the eye, etc etc. One thing that I think May have been a factor in all of this, is the fact that Tim's father was such a renowned right hand puncher, and perhaps he had the idea in his head that he would take Fundora out with a big right hand, and by the time he knew what was happening the fight was over he was probably fighting in a bit of a fog anyway. I usually don't consider a Fighter's mental situation because I don't really know what's going on in their heads, I try to focus on what I see in the ring, but maybe his dad's Legend made him a bit overzealous looking for the big right hand? Ultimately I suppose it was a combination of a lot of factors. I would love to see a rematch!
Zoo was the number 1 rated LMW in the world going into this fight, I don't think anyone discredited him. Some said they didn't believe he was p4p worthy but that's subjective.
5 pints is close to 2.5 litres, I highly doubt it was that much, I'd say 500 ml's to 1 litre maximum. Imagine cutting a hole in the end a 500 ml bottle filled with blood and spraying it around the ring, it would look like someone had been massacred. No doubt it would have tired Tszyu out and slowed him down but if he lost as much as you say I think he would have collapsed in the ring. As you said, losing half the body's blood is life threatening when you're just sitting down and doing **** all, pretty hard to do when you're going high octane in a world championship prize fight.
Fundora deserves credit for actually taking advantage of his height and reach for the first time in his life. he stepped back and jabbed Timmy’s bloody head off, instead of giving away everything by fighting on the inside like he usually does.
Zoo isn't really popular enough to have many haters. Can count on one hand. He was regarded as the best LMW in the world until he lost, by everyone. He gets plenty of credit and hardly any discredit.
So one guy had a broken nose from round 2 & another guys suffered a cut in round 3 Both men sucked it up, stuck it out, battled it out & the best man won. That’s what this sport is all about.
