Jerry could beat those big intimadating sluggers AND FOREMAN was definetly in that category. He was so confident of beating big George it was sorta unnerving lol. Look of the Records Jerry defeated with barely even losing a round! All ranked at the time from #1 to #5 Mathis (29-1, 20 KO), Mac Foster 24-0 24 ko, Ron Lyle 19-0 17 ko, Earnie Shavers 46-2 45 ko (combined 118-3 106 KNOCKOUTS!)

Cleveland Williams was knocked out by Sonny Liston twice and was knocked out in 8 out of his 13 losses so Quarry for this one.

 

A far better fighter than Quarry ever was.

One of them was when he was a 20 year old, green, last minute sub. Another five were when he was already shot.... literally. But don't let facts get in the way.

 

Fair point. Still doesn't change the fact that he never really beat good contenders of his time because of the shooting. That's why I believe Quarry takes it.

 

I mean the Terrell win was excellent. Miteff and Daniels were ranked both times. He also had a very impressive win over Alonzo Johnson, who'd just fallen out of the top ten but had wins over guys like Nino Valdez, and Pastrano. He'd never been knocked out, yet Williams did it in one round.

Williams also drew with the number 2 rated Machen, when a washed Machen, who went on to make a fool of the undefeated Quarry four years ago.

But yes you're correct that Quarry has the better resume. Their's no getting around that. But resumes don't make fights. Both were world-class contenders, but not championship caliber fighters so it's not the foregone conclusion like everyone's making it out to be. As a matter of fact, Quarry in his prime lost to a worse fighter than Williams. Same is not true vice versa

I don't think Quarry would've enjoyed the same style advantage he did over guys like Foster, Shavers, and Lyle. Williams was a better boxer than all of those men, and more importantly had much better hand speed than those guys, and more than Quarry himself, which I think would greatly disturb Quarry's counterpunching.

 

You're entitled to your opinion but Quarry has beaten pretty good fighters throughout his career such as Norton and those guys you mentioned. He dominated those fights over Shavers and Lyle. Maybe Williams was better fundamentally but Lyle and Shavers were huge punchers. That's why I believe Quarry could beat Williams by ko
