Dear Ms. Sonya, it is because you think with your heart instead of your brain, simply put. I'll break it down: Rocky was in a life and death fight with totally shot, old worn out former lightheavyweight, small Ezzard Charles. He was in a hard fight with (42 year old?) former lightheavyweight Moore, and was even floored by that old, small guy. And someone is telling me, that Marciano would stand a chance vs a modern, giant, athletic, maybe the hardest one punch boxer ever? Wlad weighed around 240 pounds in his prime and ko'ed big 235 pound men with single punches. The weight difference would be approx. 55 pounds. It would be an overrated midget vs a top, top skilled boxer. Those that believe that RM stands a chance vs this kind of opponent should be worried about their mental capacity and they probably believe the moon is made out of cheese... If you pick Rocky to beat Willard or Carnera, then he beats the K2 brothers.

I don't. Rocky may have had a chance vs Tommy Burns, and that's it. Marciano was just that bad. I give todays ranked lightmiddleweights a chance vs Marciano. The Ray Leonard who beat Lalonde, well, I would give him a fair chance of outpointing Marciano.

There comes a point where physics asserts itself, no? How does he even reach a guy who is nine or so inches taller and has a reach advantage of a foot and an half?

 

The folks who believe Marciano has 0,0001 % chance vs Wladimir are the people who lose all their money om gambling, buy stocks when they are expensive and sell them cheap out of fear of losing their money. The folks who believe Marciano has 0,0001 % chance vs Wladimir are the people who work in factories, are busdrivers or are on wellfare... No offence, but that's just the truth.

Wladimir Klitschko's weak point is his resistance to being Ko'd and his style (in this particular fight against Rocky). His strong points are his size, power, and jab.

Rocky Marciano's weak point is his size. His strong points are his resistance to being Ko'd, his unstoppable determination to win, his style (in this particular fight against Wladimir), and his ability to KO opponents.

I do not think size is an end all. You obviously do think it is. That seems to be the basis of our disagreement. You have stated you believe that Rocky could not beat Jess Willard or Primo Carnera. Do you really believe Jack Dempsey and Max Baer were THAT much better than Rocky Marciano? (They destroyed decent versions of Willard and Carnera.)

There are a lot of variables in a prize fight. Size is just one of them. In my view, just about every other variable favors Marciano in this particular match-up.

I am picking Marciano by late KO or Decision. BUT, and it is a BIG but! I will not infer that someone is mentally deficient or stupid for believing Wladimir Klitschko would win against Rocky Marciano. Opinions are opinions. I have told you mine, and why I hold that view.

 

Willard and Carnera were stiffs. Wladimir is an elite big man.

 

Marciano hasn't a ghost of a chance.

 

Let me be more precise, because you may not have understood my question: Rocky gets floored by a 42 year old lightheavyweight, and has his nose split by a former 34 year old lightheavyweight. What do you think would happen, when Wlad connetcs with a left hook to RM's head? Or do you believe, Wlad, during 15 rounds, wouldn't connect? It is not clear to me that people are nostalgic to this extent.
Wlad has never fought someone as light as Marciano in his career, and Marciano has never fought someone as heavy as Wlad in his career.
Would anyone bet me against Wlad?
