I've been boxing for 25 years and I've never fought anyone who punches as hard as Corrie Sanders. He was very fast and had really powerful hands," said the 48-year-old Ukrainian in an interview with Ring magazine.

If nothing else, I think you've got to give credit for a fighter finally saying the guy who hit him the hardest was someone who beat him that they didn't come back and beat. Rare.

While it's true some guys seem to be patting themselves on the back when they answer this question, that isn't always the case.

Sometimes a guy will land a punch on the arms, chest, etc, and aren't able to land flush but you can feel how hard they hit in terms of the sheer force behind the punch. Oftentimes the punch that knocks you down or out isn't necessarily the "hardest" one, but it may be because you didn't see it coming, failed to brace yourself, or were exhausted and spent before the final blow.

This is sometimes obvious when watching the footage, but it's a case by case thing.

Yeah much respect to Wlad for saying it was Sanders. I am surprised. Fighters almost universally pick someone that they beat. Rip Sanders

I remember Rahman talking about Sanders power after his fight with Sanders . He said something like I don’t know if it’s a leverage thing but I have never been hit like that.

That’s not very kind to say Ney, Wladmir Klitschko was a long reigning champion who did as well as he could with what he had. He didn’t take a shot well perhaps but give him credit for defining an era.
Respectfully do you know what it takes to get in the ring with someone who has spent a whole profession hitting people?
Then them training months thinking they can take you out with one punch? To have to steer that threat and confidence for up to an hour?
Years and years of your discipline against there’s on display for one night that may define or even take your life.

It's a fairly obvious pick to be honest.

Sure, some boxers big up the power of a vanquished foe to accentuate their feat, while avoiding their own 'obvious' pick (typically, due to the echoes of a grudge). The flip-side of that accentuation is a clear justification for having been demolished by the opponent one names as the hardest puncher they faced.

In Wlad's case, it's not going to hurt him to cite Sanders. Everyone saw what happened and, moreover, there was no lingering bad blood between them, as far as I'm aware. If anything, it likely underpins an explanation for his being wiped out.

Another consideration is that Wlad doesn't really have a whole lot of proven big punchers to choose from. He could have opted for Peter but that would have been a bit of a stretch for most and Wlad in retirement is just too straightforwardly matter-of-fact to try and spin the un-spinnable, IMO.

Sanders fits the bill too well.

It'd be impossible to pick otherwise.

Haven't forgot the Frazier thread mate will get there eventually!!!!

I didn't realise Machine and JT have been reading a different forum than I have, all these years. What does the background on your forum look like? Is it the same theme as mine? Mine is like black and gold.

Something has always told me that Corrie Sanders could have done so much more with his career. But phrases like “ could have “ mean nothing in life or in this game.

Very rare for an ex fighter to say that someone who beat them is the hardest puncher they faced funnily enough.

Generally they name someone they beat as the hardest puncher. I am guessing it’s because of their ego that they want to claim credit for beating the hardest puncher they faced.

Yes he was never that dedicated to the sport. He didn’t approach training and preparation like a professional athlete should and it showed in the ring at times.
