Name how many Heavyweights would beat even an early 90s version of Lewis and theres your answer. Even a 1993 version of Lewis is still better H2H than 90 percent of any Heavyweight who ever lived. And whilst Lewis may of improved technically later on his career in some ways he was just as dangerous in early 90s due to being lighter, faster, and a bit more aggressive.
I disagree, I don`t think Lewis was tghat good before Steward startedv training him, he was very sloppy, he looked poor v an ageing Tucker and got careless v the limited McCall.
I agree Frank loved the sport and like you say the money was secondary to the glory and love he received from fans. I did listen to a good podcast the other week I think it was James English interviewing Frank. I'm sure Frank mentioned he'd be up for an exhibition fight payday.
Frank was very likeable and as genuinely humble as you can get. He had his limitations at world level but he managed to get that title strap in the end, hook or by crook. I can remember it all as if it was yesterday. The public feel good factor was off the scale. All long before the internet and social media too. This content is protected If Frank fancies having a genuine exhibition match, then why not. A bit of top-up cash always comes in handy. He's still in great shape, too.
After ko'ing Dokes to win a world title I thought Coetzee sort of enjoyed his triumph and wasn't focused again as he previously was. Many times after you've climbed the mountain there's no where to go but down. I wish he could have fought Holmes after beating Dokes, would have been entertaining and might have prompted Gerrie to be in tip top shape.
Saturday July 19 1986, Tim Witherspoon retained his WBA Heavyweight Title with a TKO 11. I saw this fight on ABC's Wide World Of Sports.
Yes but your earlier comment was "Lewis got careless vs limited McCall" trying to prove a point that a version of Lewis who wasn't trained by Emanuel Steward was more careless. But the Rahman loss was when Lewis was trained by Emanuel Steward which contradicts your earlier comment. Lewis beat a McCall who had a mental breakdown not because of some magical training techniques under Emanuel Steward. Lewis also struggled immensely against a fat Ray Mercer under Emanuel Steward. See how we can all choose a narrative to fit our agenda I don't like the way you're trying to take credit away from Bruno for his performance against Lewis making out Lewis was some green fighter. Lewis was a frigging world champion.....and had recently dismantled Razor Ruddock who was considered the most dangerous Heavyweight outside of Mike Tyson at that time.
Witherspoon-Page 1. Me and KO Magazine both considered it a bore fest in 1984. Rewatching it on You Tube it turned out to be a war instead and Barry Tompkins even said so. But in the 80s, we were spoiled and expected every fight to be Leonard-Duran 1.
