I read an article where Tony Galento called the 70s fighters bums

Not a defense, but those were hard times, Galento was a hard man, doing what he could to earn money....
He wasn't skilled, or physically talented other than a hard puncher. He probably wouldn't even be remembered , or gotten a title shot if it wasn't for his outrageous comments.

Patterson vs Galento would be a cool fight.

Galento was colorful, brave, took a terrific shot and had a nasty left hook but he called everyone a bum in his day too ...

I'd like to think that Floyd does at least as well vs. Galento as he did against a past prime, but still tough Bonavena. Floyd's chin would worry me a little though.

Man, I’ve always loved that clip. “A reflection of his own condition” - later known as projecting oneself onto others. So well expressed by Max.

Besides his entertaining style and power right hand, what a boon to boxing Max would be today in terms of character and personality.

It is a shame he wasn’t better drilled in the fundamentals - not just for the sake of taking his career further but it would’ve saved him unnecessary punishment - including against Galento who he might’ve seen off in half the time that it did take.

Max vs Tyson Fury? It might only take one right hand. :)

Nice touch Lou Costello doing the post fight IV - I “think” Lou did some boxing in his younger days - can’t recall if it included pro fights - perhaps.

Similar to Bob Hope. - Interesting career transition from boxing to comedy :D - years later, Tony Danza did same - if he wasn’t in fact doing both at the same time at one stage.

If downed, I think Floyd would bounce back up each time...if not reined in by the ref, Galento’s dirty tactics would be much more the problem for Floyd I think, but what a sight if Floyd was able to land an Ingoesque left hook to put Fat Tony to ni-nights.

Joe Louis’ left hook/uppercut virtually lifting 233 1/2 lbs of Galento off the canvas onto his back is still one of the most gob smacking sights in boxing.

If Joe was a bum as Galento claimed pre and post fight, imagine what a “good” fighter would’ve done to Two Ton?

With all respect to Tony I doubt he lasts two rounds vs Forman.

Against Galento or Joe? Against Two Ton I think Joe would feel like he was back at the abattoir, slicing and dicing a big lump of meat.
