Has anyone read an explanation as to why Dick Tiger tapped his gloves together so often?

You made an innocuous praise of him. I took an innocuous jab at him. What’s the difference?

Grey, I'm taking a short trip to Dallas to see family and I'm going taking the Haislet book with me to study on the plane. Your post is really a revelation to me. I guess the idea is to do a quick check on weight distribution to adjust your balance for leverage and punching power. I assume an experienced, well-trained fighter could take stock in the matter of a split second by stealing a glance at the canvas. I am guessing that in most cases the best way to make the adjustment would be by moving your rear foot to the left or right. That would be the right foot for an orthodox fighter and the left for a southpaw. Am I on the right track? A friend pointed out to me that Mike Gibbons also used to touch his nose.

I am not sure but it may have something to do with a fighters rhythm, I remember another fighter who used to do the same thing, Salvador Sanchez used to tap his gloves together too.

Yes, you are on the right track. Another part of it, if you can touch your nose with your right thumb, you are in position to catch a jab in your right hand, and you throw it from right there as well. And if you touch your nose for as long as you can, you will turn your hip ahead of your hand.

Also, you can pick your friends; and you can pick your nose — but you can’t pick your friend’s nose.

Well, if you pick your own nose everybody gets all judgmental but, if it needs to be picked....
