Ryan still would have been a bad matchup for him and would have beaten him..

That's why I thought Haney would win, being a disciplined boxer. But at times last night I thought Haney was more aggressive than usual leaving himself open instead of just boxing him and keeping his distance .

Haneys chin is already bad, but the big weight draining is making it worse. You can't shed 25 pounds of water without weakening your body.

Ryan Garcia missing weight was unprofessional and borderline clownish behavior. That said, it also made a mockery of Devin's "sanctioned cheating," where he will fight guys several weight divisions smaller than himself on fight night; getting away with blatant size mismatches because it had the veneer of, "fighting within the rules." Then add a healthy helping of being on the "in" crowd of Vegas, where favorable judging and refereeing allowed him to jab and grab his way to boring victories, even in fights he should have lost (Loma).

One guy broke the letter of the law and gave karmic justice to the other guy who had been beating its spirit with a sledgehammer for years.

Keep crying. Haney rehydrates like 20 pounds on fight night.

Paulie Mags, Chris Alghieri and Tim Bradley agreed that losing the last few pounds ahead of a weigh in "steals your soul" (quote from Chris). Alghieri was at the weigh in and reported that Haney looked "gaunt ".....sunken cheekbones, dry and sick looking skin. Yes, he rehydrated but the fact that he had to work to drain off the 3 pounds and Garcia didn't probably did effect Haney. How much? Could it be quantified? Who knows. Ultimately it was all about those lethal left hooks.

I will believe what boxers say about losing weight over random posters. I have always maintained it's crazy for boxers and other athletes to drain weight just to get an advantage over an opponent who is probably drained as well. In this case, one guy was drained and the other wasn't.

Both Haney and Garcia should be fighting at 147.

An issue which would affect the outcome in any way ....

It was mentioned in regards to garcia being very mentally unwell etc and more proof he hadnt trained properly and should be pulled etc

Do you realise how ridiculous that sounds?

If you stop allowing fighters to balloon up after a weigh in that is 24 hours before the actual fight, they'll be weighing in at their actual fighting weight.

Haney, in the ring, is closer to a middleweight, so he should be competing at 160.
The guys at 160 doing the same weight cut will actually be closer to light heavyweights, and so on.

Nobody, will be put at risk cutting weight, so it will actually be safer.
Stop allowing boxers to shed weight to make a limit and then rehydrating back up to 15-20+ pounds over... it's stupid.
You end with weight classes being completely pointless.

I say weigh ins should be 3 hours before the fight.

Why are people still crying about this? When Garcia lost to Davis people were crying about the hydration clause. Now people are crying about the 3lbs.

In both cases the fighter agreed to it. Paid handsomely to do it too. So people need to just shut up about it. THEY BOTH AGREED to the terms.

You are absolutely right that both parties agreed to go ahead and that's the end of it.

I'm a firm believer in same day weigh ins, ideally a few hours before the fight.

I cannot understand what the governing bodies are doing allowing these absurd acts of (supposed) rehydration that sees a junior welterweight stepping into the ring bulked up and walking around like a middleweight.

What about the guys who are actually 140 pounders and don't cut and bulk up?

Are they put in a dangerous situation facing guys 20+ pounds heavier than them?

Are they all cutting weight to make 135 and doing the same?

Who is actually in their correct weight class?

It is a mess and I can't believe it's not a bigger issue among fans and the media.

You almost never hear promotors or pundits address this...and if they do I don't remember seeing it being discussed as a serious issue.

Are you ****ing serious? Three pounds made the difference in this fight? No, Haney's atrocious punch resistance made the difference in this fight.

Ryan had to be super close to making weight.

He wore shoes, pants, underwear on the scale and chugged about 6oz. of liquid and was "only" 3.2lbs over.

Had he stripped, shaved his head and not drank on stage, would he have made it?

I don't know about that. Haney won against Ryan three times in the amateurs. 3-3 against Haney.
