Where is a precedent for this?

How can someone lose their title in a non-title fight?

Both failed to meet the contract requirements Garcia failed to make weight to challenge for the title then Haney got his butt whupped by Garcia meaning he lost the title there, so neither can legitimately be the champion.
The title must be declared VACANT & the top 2ranked contenders fight for the title
Better still just scrap the alphabets & have one title one weight again

Yes but clinching isn't. And who's holding who and the severity of that can be subjective and difficult to accurately enforce.

Same question to you : When has a reigning champion ever lost their title in a non-title fight under the conditions that existed here?

If that was the way things worked you would be able to provide examples wouldn't you? Looking forward to hearing them...

How are people still claiming Haney lost the belt while fighting a non titled fight. To be a titled fight the opponent must be 140 or bellow. Is this really that hard for people to grasp?

I wonder how long some of these people have actually followed boxing? Not very long if they don't even know the champion can't lose his title in a non-title bout.

The title should be vacated but it just underscores how much support Haney has been given, from gift decision against Loma, hailed as the next big thing, to keeping a belt he doesn’t deserve. He’s now a paper champion.

Give us one example of a reigning champion losing their title in a non-title bout like this. You have over a 100 years of boxing history to find just one. Good luck...

    Yes
Yes, following his gift decision over a heavily outweighed, veteran Loma, he’s reverted to his original status, of an email belt claimant.

Of course, titles mean nothing nowadays and I couldn't care less who has a belt or not, seriously. This is really a shame, as I used to really respect each champ in their division because they usually earned it the hard way, that is most of the time.

And I was just thinking, what if they rematch and Garcia comes in overweight again?

Oh and by the way for any newer boxing fans reading, titles do not change hands in non-title fights.

It would just automatically be another non-title fight. Hardly rocket science.

These are the rules, Haney having the belt isn't special treatment because Garcia couldn't make weight. Even though he logically should be stripped because he lost.
