IF Crawford becomes undisputed at 154 where does he rank?

For me he slots in right under Pacquiao and Floyd as the third best fighter since Roy Jones Jr.

2. Floyd Mayweather
3. Terence Crawford

 

I personally would not rank him that high and I consider myself a fan of Crawfords.

Sure he passes the eye test with flying colors, but his resume is no where near the top. Who is Crawfords best win? How does that best win stack against other fighters best? Bud fought bums in Omaha too long to rank so highly in my opinion.

As for unifying? Belts dont make you an ATG. Broner was a four division Titleist. Titles hold less meaning depending on who held them and for how long.

Undisputed in 3 weight divisions is unprecedented.

 

In the 4 belt era

 

He'll also have been the clear champion in 4 divisions which is a great achievement and peered by few.

Even in the traditional 8 belt era he'll have been champion at LW and WW which is a feat achieved by only the greatest boxers in history.

 

I'd say it puts him above Ward but maybe just below Chocolatito in terms of best fighters post Mayweather era. He's certainly below Pac and Mayweather, their level of competition was just absurd and I can't see how Bud could have matched it. Assuming he beats Madrimov, Tzsyu/Vergil winner, Fundora, Murtazaliev, and maybe Boots if he moves up then those would all be really strong wins in my eyes (except Murt, he's not really impressed me much). In terms of eye test, achievements, and silver ware, Bud scores excellently, but for resume and overall level of competition? I dunno, his best wins are Errol, Porter, Postol, LW Gamboa, Burns, and Beltran. Most of his opponents were solid B level fighters but nobody truly elite apart from Errol. Who knows though, maybe he goes on a Hopkins-esque run where he maintains his level of ability into his 40s and does most of his truly career defining work post-36, but it seems unlikely.

 

I don't think hes close to RJJ in all honesty.

Since when has Crawford got any names on his resume close to the likes of Virgil Hill ? Bernard Hopkins ? James Toney ? etc.

Context matters and whilst Crawford's achievements would be great his actual opposition would be nowhere close to great. Infact I would say his opposition for a supposed P4P king is very mediocre.

Pacquiao and Mayweather opposition wise would also blow Crawford out of the water.

all fair comments but this part is just as ....hopkins wasnt 'B-hop' yet. he was, a good contender who's expereince turned him into something extra natural a few years after. virgil was clearly past his best and was always seen as a solid but 'title holder' and Toney was freefalling with promotion and weight even before the fight.
yet we could say a similar story about Porter, Gamboa, Burns, Spence, Brooks for Crawfords resume.


not to dissagree and argue about cute points. just saying crawfords career for the past half decade is astonishing.
And as bad you think some of his opponants are (in comparison) it won't be long before the classic section of the forum have threads and avatars of Burns, Gamboa, Brooks in the regard of Hill, Hopkins, Toney.

 

First, ranking pac over Floyd is crazy. But I give pac his flowers he is #2 after Floyd.

Bud is an overrated fraud who’s beat no elite fighter in their prime. He can’t **** with Canelos resume. Go beat Ennis, Vergil, and Fundora and I’ll give him some props. He’ll get the validation he so desperately wants.

Quit trolling. If we re purely talking “achievements” sure being champ in 8 weight classes trumps what Floyd has done. But when we talking about wins and h2h Floyd wins every time.

 

It’s just hard to rank him above May/Pac to no fault of his. Simply put there just simply isn’t MAB, Morales, Marquez, Cotto, Mosley, Bradley, JLC, Oscar, Pac/Floyd, Hatton, Corrales around for him to beat. Canelo is around but I doubt Canelo would give him that chance in a lose/lose situation.

Basically he can’t be ranked above those guys not because of what he’s doing but because what the fighters is his era did not do and that was establish great careers. In beating Errol Spence he has a Corrales/Timothy Bradley win and that’s it compared to those guys.
