According to Boxrec, Ryan Garcia is the third ranked welterweight in the world. He is ranked right below Bud Crawford and Errol Spence and right above Boots Ennis. This ranking has been bestowed upon Garcia despite the fact that he has never fought a welterweight opponent. Ya gotta love Boxrec.

yeah and Vergil Ortiz Jr is ranked 2nd at Light Middleweight despite having barely done anything at the weight, He's above Fundora, Tszyu, Madrimov, Murtazaliev, Adams, Bohachuk haha.
I'm not truly sure how Boxrec does their ratings. For a long time I heard they used an algorithm but now I've read they stopped using that method. In any event, when they see such obvious flaws they need to find a way to tweak their system.
Their archival system is 10000× better than their ranking system is bad. literally one of the best archives in all of sports
I really wish they'd do away with it if they're not going to do it seriously because every other week someone's rage baiting on Instagram or twitter over their rankings.
Boxrec is great for record keeping and for knowing what fights are coming up. So I can give them a pass if their rankings don't really make any sense.
