if round system were used instead of the ten point system and if the point system was used instead of the round system?

Joe Frazier-Bonavena 1. Bonavena would of won. Fraizer was knocked down twice and the judges had it Frazier winning the fight 6 rounds to 4, 5 rounds to 4 and 1 even and one judge scored it 5-5

And if the round system was used instead of the point system for Marquez-Pacman 1. Marquez would of won the fight considering the three knockdowns Pacman had in the first round

Winky Wright would have beaten Julio Cesar Vasquez if it had been the rounds system and not the points system.

Garcia vs Haney would have been a draw with the rounds system I think

Snipes-Coetzee changes from a controversial split decision for Renaldo Snipes to a unanimous decision for Gerrie Coetzee.

Snipes won 5-4 on two cards and lost 3-6 on the other using New York’s round system. Under supplemental points, both judges who went for Snipes had him down 6-5-1 on points (this is over 10 rounds, (Perhaps @scartissue could give us a breakdown of how that works.)

The NYSAC rep said under rule they could have chosen to invoke the points system to override their own round-system votes, but neither did.

The rematch would also be a draw instead of a Pacquiao SD win

    Points replace rounds:
Bruce Curry wins his first match with Wilfred Benitez. El Radar won a split decision with scores of 7-3, 5-4-1, and 4-5-1, but one of Curry's rounds saw him score two knockdowns, and another saw him score one. Under the points system each of those is a 10-8 round at worst, which would have been enough to give him the victory on the card he lost by just one round.

    Rounds replace points:
Chan-hee Park wins his second fight with Shoji Oguma. Going by rounds, Park would have won a split decision by scores of 5-2-8, 6-5-4, and 3-5-7. The thing is that the guy who had Park winning 6-5 gave Oguma two 10-8 rounds even though he scored no knockdowns, and he scored the first round 10-9 for Park rather than 10-8, even though Park dropped Oguma in the closing seconds. Consequently he had Oguma ahead by one at the end.

What I like about this thread is it shows that there isn't one correct answer. Benitez-Curry I demonstrates the flaws of the rounds system (Curry gets only minor credit for his three knockdowns), and Oguma-Park II does the same with points (Harry Gibbs plays fast and loose with the ten-point must system). Each of these fights was very controversial and would probably have resulted in a more satisfactory decision had it been scored with the other method.

Pat, historically, the NY/NJ rounds scoring system did not allow supplemental points unless the official ended up with an even card (4-4-2, 5-5, etc.). It was only then he was allowed to implement any additional points that may have accrued. This one with Coetzee and Snipes could only have been down to NY State attempting to get onboard with the system the rest of the world had adopted, but not willing to bend all the way. I think 'allowing' their judges, but not making it mandatory on additional points seems to have sort of blown up in their face. They just went with the system they knew, which was the rounds basis.

Yeah I was attempting to make sense of the two 6-5-1 points cards in a 10-round fight. I guess you would win a round 2-0 with a knockdown on the points thing?

I thought it was a supplemental 5-point must at least at some time, and like you said only used if a card ended up with a draw. Or maybe that was Jersey and it different from New York a bit.
