The thread on the dirtiest fight had me thinking more granular on this subject. What I'm asking is what is the dirtiest, intentional, single incident in the following categories you have seen or read about: 1) Headbutts 2) Rabbit punch 3) Low blow 4) Elbow/Shoulder 5) Thumb/Heel/Lace 6) Bite 7) Hitting on the break/after the bell 8) Corner 9) Official 10) Post-fight winner 11) Audience 12) Hitting a man when down Give it a go
Headbutts: When Carlos Maussa hit Vivian Harris with a headbutt, it wasn’t the slightest bit sneaky or subtle. They were at a distance and Maussa does a “whack-a-mole” angled headbutt. That and Ortiz’s E-Honda headbutt on Floyd are 2 of the most laughably obvious headbutts I’ve ever seen. Rabbit punch: Maybe Lewis-Bruno? There’s one sequence where they are in a clinch and each hit each other with like a half dozen rabbit punches. Lazarte hit Solis with countless rabbit punches, among other fouls. Low blow: Maybe Golota-Bowe, since he finished the rematch with a 3 punch combo to the nutsack. Throughout the fight, I think Norwood-Gainer and Pedroza-Laporte might actually be worse. Elbow/Shoulder: Pedroza-Laporte Thumb/Heel/Lace: not sure. I remember Duran seemed to lace Moore pretty bad at the end of the 7th. Sanchez tried to do that to Pacquiao in the 01’ fight in San Francisco. Bite: Tyson, because he bit Holyfield twice and did more damage. Bentt bit Hide once. Golota hit P’ouha once. Lazarte bit Solis once. Hitting on the break/after the bell: Tyson-Ruddock 2 had 4 or 5 rounds when there were hits after the bell. Bowe-Gonzalez was more blatant though. Bowe walked across the ring to hit Gonzalez from behind after the bell rang. He was dominating and just felt like cheap shotting him. Norris-Santana 2 was bad too, acting jobs aside. Norris could claim he thought the round was not over, but the ref was literally between them! Bowe-Holyfield 2 had the two longest extended sequences of fighting after the bell. Corner: Resto-Collins Official: definitely the ref in Coggi-Gonzalez 1 Post-fight winner: not sure. Post-fight loser is that POS James Butler. Audience: Bowe-Golota 1. Lazarte-Casimero and Hagler-Minter. The riots after Johnson-Jeffries were in the streets. They weren’t in the audience were they? Hitting a man when down: Norris is probably the king of this, and his most blatant might be the SRL one since he runs across the ring to hit Leonard when he’s down. There’s others like Lennox hitting Acey with a 3 shot or Zab hitting Sample. Zab clearly looked at sample on the ground, stopped, and then just hit Sample for fun.
“E-Honda headbutt” made me laugh! All this & you didn’t mention Bowe vs Tillery! Straight out of Rocky IV.
I forgot about that one. I put it on my half hour video of dirty fighting. I think it’s at the very end.
Royce Sio 1-0 (1 KO) blasted Solomon Haumono 15-0-1 (14 Kos) twice while he was flat on his back. Probably the worst such infraction I can recall seeing. This content is protected
OK, here's mine on the subject: 1) Headbutts - Donald Curry v Tony Montgomery - Montgomery was coming close to losing by KO when in the 5th round he decided to take the easy way out. He rammed his head into Curry's and was docked a point. Then he did it again and was docked another point. At this point I doubt anyone in the arena did not know what was coming. Montgomery immediately rammed his head once more into Curry's and got himself DQ'd rather than go out like a man. Curry was so PO'd he walked over to Montgomery gingerly and clocked him. I saw no problem with that. 2) Rabbit punch - The first round of Floyd Patterson v Charley 'Devil' Green when Green, in a rabbit punch frenzy, dropped Patterson with a 'Tomahawk chop' to the back of the head. Just got a warning, not even a deduction. 3) Low blow - Jose Napoles v Armando Muniz I - with his title slipping away, Napoles was allowed to low-blow Muniz' nads in the 11th round like they had a target on them, while the ref looked the other way. 4) Elbow/shoulder - 14th round of Pedroza v LaPorte. During a flurry, Pedroza expertly threw an elbow to the jaw into the mix but it didn't go unnoticed an the ref deducted a point. 5) Thumb/heel/lace - gotta admit to not having seen this one, but had read about it in a great old article from World Boxing many years ago. It was the first fight between Fritzie Zivic and Bummy Davis and the story goes that Zivic was very subtlely plying his thumb in the eyes of Davis until Davis exploded and went into a foul blow frenzy, getting himself DQ'd. Zivic had to be chuckling over that one. 6) Bite - hands down the second fight between Tyson and Holyfield 7) Hitting on the break/at the bell - Calvin Grove v Lester Ellis II - Round 3 Grove decked Ellis and the ref gave Ellis all kinds of time to get up and recover and then the bell rang. When Grove turned to return to his corner, Ellis ran across the ring and rabbit-punched Grove. No point deduction. 8) Corner - hands down Panama Lewis in the Collins-Resto bout 9) Officials - Juan Coggi v Eder Gonzalez I - Referee and timekeeper colluding to preserve Coggi's title and robbing Gonzalez 10) Post-fight winner - I liked @Thread Stealer mentioning the James Butler incident and I should have expanded this category to include poor losers as well. But as far as poor winners go I always think of teddy Reid stopping Emiliano Valdez in the 10th round of a tough fight and with Valdez out cold Reid stands over him like he doesn't even notice him at his feet while talking smack with his ringside homies. It was disgraceful. I should also add that Valdez died. 11) Audience - Man, there are a lot of audience generated infractions over the years. I thought of the bottle-throwing from Hagler-Minter, the parking lot turning over cars from Rose-Castillo, the seat-cushion burning from the first Frankie Duarte-Famosito Gomez bout, but the one that really disgusted me was the second Romeo Anaya v Enrique Pinder bout. When Anaya KO'd Pinder in the 3rd, his crazed fans flooded the ring and were actually standing on Pinder who was still sprawled on the canvas 12) Hitting when down - @USFBulls727 had a great one there and reminded me of one I saw as a youth. It was a 10-rounder between a local up and coming middleweight named Rocky DiFazio and a clubfighter named Jimmy Carter. Carter must've been keyed up because he got the better of DiFazio in that first minute or so and decked the favorite. But it didn't end there, Carter actually got down on the canvas and started pummeling DiFazio until he was pulled off. They were going to DQ Carter but DiFazio good-naturedly waived it and said he was OK to continue. But the crowd was riled from his antics and someone threw in a chair into the ring, hitting Carter in the neck. So the DQ somehow stood. I recall Carter in the WBBM newsroom the next day talking to Brent Musburger saying that since DiFazio waived the DQ, that he must've been DQ'd for getting hit with the chair. Quite amusing at the time. Thanks to everyone who chimed in. If you have anymore standout incidents, I'd love to hear them
Post fight loser - Zab Judah's carry on after being smacked into a coma by Kostya Tszyu would come close.
Not the dirtiest or anything but standing out because it massively impacted the outcome was Tua hitting Rahman with a fight-altering punch after the bell. Opinions may vary but I think Tua won a fight he was losing on the strength of that deliberately late shot.
Lupe Pintor fans throwing beer cups full of Urine on Johnny Owen as he was being taken out on a stretcher (I believe the ambulance staff were assaulted too) was a low point in boxing and humanity. Owen had fought the fight of his life against a good champion in front of his fans and had lost with dignity and respect yet these neanderthals did that. Soon after Britain´s Cornelius Boza Edwards stood toe to toe with Mexico´s teak tough Bazooka Limon and beat him at his own game after the classless champion said that he would kill him like Pintor did to Owen.
Did the crowd all just pre-prep cups of urine? I mean how do you spontaneously organise something like that?
Brandon Rios vs Diego Chaves was one of the dirtiest fights I think I've ever seen: This content is protected Duran hitting Buchanan flush in the crown jewels after the bell also springs to mind.
The Duran shot to the nuts came after Kenny threw 2 or 3 punches after the bell for the 2nd or 3rd time in the fight.
