Who would have Bob Foster had a better chance at, Victor Galindez or John Conteh?

Who would have Bob Foster had a better chance at, Victor Galindez or John Conteh? Foster was supposed to defend against either after his 15 round draw against Argentina's Jorge Ahumada in June 1974. Conteh was the WBC no.1 contender and Galindez was the WBA no.1 contender, Foster was the undisputed World Light Heavyweight Champion.

 

Stylistically Conteh was harder opponent for Bob, I think

 

John Conteh was more of a counterpuncher. Victor Galindez was more bullish.

 

Foster had alot of problems vs Finnegan who was a classic boxer like Conteh but a tad below his level, so logically you would think Foster would have alot of issues with Conteh.

But then again Foster had alot of problems with Ahumda who was bullish as @Richard M Murrieta pointed out for Galindez so based on that you can say Foster would have problems vs Galindez aswell.

But i do feel like overall that Galindez would give Foster more opportunities to land his bombs.

So to answer the question i'd probably go for John Conteh as being the more problematic style for Foster.

I think he’d have had problems with them both and probably would have lost to either of them at that point in his career.

 

So true, look how Bob Foster struggled against challenger Jorge Ahumada in June 1974, Foster soon retired saying: It Is Too Much Of A Mental Thing To Fight Both The WBA And The WBC.

 

Foster was past prime post the draw with Ahumada, which was the last of his 14 x lineal LHW defences and his last ever fight at LHW. I'd favour both Conteh and Galindez to beat Foster post Ahumada.

I'd favour prime Foster to beat both Galindez and Conteh. To answer the thread question, I'd suspect Galindez would be the tougher fight for Bob.

 

I'd go with Conteh having the better chance at winning.

Foster was at the end when he fought Ahumada, so Galindez and Conteh would both have a great shot at beating him at that point.

But Conteh was nearly three inches taller than Galindez. Galindez was a smallish - physically and weight-wise - light heavy. Conteh actually boxed as a heavyweight during parts of his career and often had trouble making 175. He was so dried out for the Saad Muhammad rematch his legs were gone.

Conteh was just a naturally bigger guy. And Foster had problems throughout his career with heavyweights.

 

I need to see some Bob Foster fights. I've only seen his fights against Ali,Quarry & Frazier. Any recommendations of exciting Bob Foster fights? Thanks in advance

 

Bob's fights vs Dick Tiger, Chris Finnegan & Mike Quarry will give you an idea of how dangerous he was at LHW.

 

Bob Foster became World Light Heavyweight Champion on My 24 1968 by stopping defending champion Dick Tiger in round 4. He also stopped challenger Mike Quarry by KO4 on June 27 1972 and challenger Chris Finnegan by TKO 14 on Sept 26 1972. Foster had 14 successful title defenses from 1968-1974, he retired as champion.

 

For me, Richard, either man had a chance to pull out a win but I think my fellow countryman, Mr Conteh, stands a great chance.

 

Saw him defend his title in 1969 in person in West Springfield Mass against Andy Kendall...Foster won by a KO in the 4th...a beast!
