Artur Beterbiev suffered a ruptured meniscus

All different things with very different meanings and outcomes.

He had preventative surgery in 2022 I believe on his knees where they "cleaned" out the tissue area. He resumed training camp October 2022 at full capacity after that.

His knees are a problem

 

If he was on the sauce the chances of these injuries decreases as the body recovers much quicker

 

His boxing skills are decent but his power is the weapon that can turn the fight around.

He won't outbox Bivol though

Before the injury I had Bivol winning the fight and then getting caught and slowed down and stopped

Now I am not so sure. Maybe Beterbiev can recover fully but I doubt it.

 

My best friend fractured his meniscus at age 16 and has still issues with his knees 15 years later. Imagine having that at age 38

If Haney weighed 171lbs versus Garcia, he should only be up to about 177lbs after eating some humble pie.
Definitely could shed those 2 lbs inside of 3 weeks.
He is great at cutting weight.

Main problem is, how does he keep that Bivol jab off of him..

Bad injury. He'll need from six months to a year for recovery. Not insurmountable especially since he is in superb physical condition.

 

None of the weights he's lifting in that video are particularly heavy and weightlifting makes the body more durable not less. He is doing some weird exercises though, like those landmine twists and block bench press.

 

Let's hope so.

 

I feel sorry for guys like Beterbiev who had to go so deep into their amateur careers.

Imagine how his career would have been if he turned over at around 21.

This was the career defining fight but at 39, the body might be breaking down.

 

What a bummer. I was really looking forward to this bout. But Beterbiev is very injury-prone, and if it truly is a ruptured meniscus, I can’t see him returning in any meaningful way. By January next year, he’ll be pushing forty, with a body that has been falling apart for the last decade.

 

Not enough is known about his injury. Barring the worst knee problems Meniscus tears are generally recoverable. The ability to return to preinjury level of perfirmance after meniscal repair is up for debate but
I have zero doubt his access to resources and dedication getting it back working well enough to fight on.

Hope were werent trying to delay surgery on it initially, considering he's a boxer id be surprised considering the nature of the sport. We've seen it tried plenty of times though

I've heard a tear in the inner part you describe can be a problem because there isn't enough blood supply in there

 

At his age, this could be a career ender. He needs his knees for torque, very instrumental to his power...............this might be it for him, he's not gonna be back this year, it'll at least be this time next year....................so next summer for a guy that's already a geriatric boxer........

If he was 27, he could come back from this. He ain't 27 though. I feel bad but it might be time to pull the plug on Beterbiev.
