Disagree on the resume part. Inoue's wins over Donaire, Narvaez, and Fulton are better than Canelo going life and death with an ancient and puffed up Miguel Cotto, getting gifted decisions over Lara, Trout, and GGG, and KOing a weight-drained, ageing, alcoholic Kovalev. Canelo's resume is smoke and mirrors, Inoue is the real deal and he is a dominant MFer.
Worse actually, I don't think Inoue was hurt even remotely, as I'm sure you noticed in the replay, Inoue was badly out of position, his legs weren't fully beneath him and was in the process of throwing a right hand. The way he violently spun around from the counter left backs that up. Sure he stayed down until 7, but his eyes were clear and seemed like he was sussing out the situation more than anything. Not saying it was fully a balance shot... but it contributed to it. Most people if caught with a shot like that, while standing like that, go down. Cotto had Canelo out on his feet and badly dazed. He got caught flush on the point of the chin with a full power big left hook as he was in the middle of throwing his own shot and he didn't see it coming at all. Nery landed his best shot all night in the first round. Getting caught cold as they say. I think Inoue was shocked and embarrassed at getting dropped the first time in his career in his own backyard in front of how many thousands of his home fans it was in attendance and it was in a fight where he was trying to avenge his countryman Yamanaka and was supposed to punish Nery for his misdeeds and Inoue was like ''damn, this isn't how it's supposed to go''
Canelo is very sharp and fast but he`s not a boxer he`s a striker that sets traps, however Inoue isn`t that skilled either despite having very good power and fast hands.
Other than GGG, PBF, Kovalev and maybe Bivol (against which quartet he's officially 3-2-1, but arguably should be 1-4-1) - who in the blue hell are you talking about? edit: actually scratch Kovalev, for the same reason I didn't include old shot Cotto and Mosley. 0-4-1 or even 0-5 on many fans' cards against the trio of GGG, PBF, and DB.
What great opposition? An ancient Golovkin who he only fought because he was looked shot against Jacobs? Or dragging up Amir Khan't, a natural super lightweight up to middleweight to fight him at a nonsense catch-weight? Or do you mean his excellent wins over the likes of Yildrim, Ryder, Chavez Jr, Liam Smith, Angulo, and Rocky Fielding? What about the natural welterweight Cotto who was massively past his prime and yet who still Canelo went 7-5 with at MW? Or his 168 run which comprises a weight-drained Mundo Smith who had just been gifted a decision over Ryder, the hype-job Plant, or the Euro-level BJS? Or maybe you mean his gifts over Lara and Trout from 10 years ago. No way does Canelo have a better resume than Inoue, Canelo has so many asterisks around his career it's laughable and refuses to fight the best contenders. Inoue hasn't ducked anyone, has never had a controversial decision, or tested positive. He's faced every challenger and champ he could get his hands on and he demolished every one of them. His wins over Nonito, Narvaez, and Fulton are better than any of Canelo's wins imo.
I'd say a legit win over even a moderately faded Golovkin would stand up to any of Inoue's best wins...but he doesn't have one. (rubbermatch Golovkin was more than just moderately faded)
