He's fought professionaly for half his life and has 60+ fights. He's definitely passed his prime as a pro. While not 'old' per se with just age, he's not young either. He's at the age where time is creeping up as a factor.

Damn Lance!? Is this the first time you messaged me without calling me names and trying to insult me? Have you finally grown up a bit?

To be honest in his last few fights I think Canelo has held back a touch and carried his opponents a little when they're hurt. Maybe he doesn't have the stamina to go up the gears but I think he'd be going for the kill vs Benavidez.

Looked as good as I have ever seen him vs Munguia. He was never perfect but he has an unbelievable boxing brain to understand his flaws, if anything that understand and experience has only improved.

He looked good. But my guess is that's a little due to Munguia's inexpereince on the top level, as well as not being as acclimated to 168 as Canelo. But overall, was a good win

Should happen next. Alvarez asking "Who is he?" in response to Benavidez is distasteful. He is the damn WBC Interim. I hope ginger remembers his daddies in Golovkin, Lara, and Mayweather.

Not one of the Mexican pugilistic deities. Period.

Just based on history. What plodder like Benavidez has given Canelo a good run for his money?

Benavidez UD. He'll put a real beating on Canelo in the second half of the fight.

Canelo could have ended the Mungia fight but it seems like he was content to carry him, he'll likely fight David with bad intentions. We just watched a fight vs a volume puncher and Canelo not only kept pace without gassing, but outlanded the younger man in every aspect of punching aside from body jabs. While David is at least from observation, of higher quality than Mungia, he's gonna be hitable in a similar way. My original thoughts are Canelo counters the hell out of him earlier and makes his output dip, but against Mungia he showed even if the output doesn't dip he can keep up that pace if need be. And from the numbers in his last few fights, Benavidez doesn't punch more than Mungia does. My question(s) for David are: will the size matter for Canelo in a way that sways the outcome? And can David fight smart against an elite c.puncher? Does he have the chin to take the full rip counters you will undoubtedly eat during a Canelo encounter? David's chin amd mind will be tested just as much as Canelos tank will. But I'm going with Canelo until someone proves otherwise.

    It's the opposite.

Canelo haters are the ones downplaying Benavidez because he's a potential future opponent so they want to make beating him seem less of a big deal.

That is dishonest as all hell. Canelo never wanted the fight, it's ridiculous to say that David needs to put his career on hold against someone who has no interest in fighting him and hasn't for the last 3 years. Whatever you think his reasons are, the fight simply hasn't happened because Canelo doesn't want it.

For all of Benavidez's weaknesses, he brings youth, size, reach, speedy combinations, power in both hands, grit and a fearless mentality. The kid is literally calling for this fight every day and wants to stand in front of Canelo and slug it out, that's a mentality I haven't seen since the 90's. In over 50 fights, this is alien territory for Canelo, and it just shows how different the times are.

In this scenario at any other point in time, I'd choose the fighter in his prime, with more experience at their comfortable weight class. For this fight though, I see Canelo not knowing what to do when the the bigger man who's willing to stand in front of him, with longer reach and faster hands comes at him all night. I think this is the one that breaks his ego and confidence, and him constantly refusing to fight David proves that to me. The Reynoso team knows something about that kid that we don't.

    Benavidez by 10-12th round TKO.

It’s going to come down to who has the stronger chin IMHO.
