The de facto answer for who is the greatest boxer of all time is obviously Sugar Ray Robinson, but who else apart from him would have a solid claim to being the GOAT if SRR were taken out of the equation?

Even with Robinson in the equation, there are at least four or five other clear candidates. I personally have Robinson only third.

    Langford needs a mention, too.

    And Maske.

I can see solid arguments for SRR, Greb, Langford and Armstrong as greatest p4p fighter of all time.

After those 4, I can't see any viable candidates, unless a different criteria is used. Perhaps Charles, at a push, but not quite for me.

    Greb based on resume
    Duran based on overall greatness

Duran has less than no case for mine. He’s very arguably not even the best Lightweight of all-time, forget pound-for-pound.

I rate Tunney highly and think he can get underrated on this forum, but reasons Greb clearly ranks higher on an all time P4P list, include:

    1) Tunney was much bigger than Greb, particularly by the end of their series, at which point Tunney was a HW.
    2) By the end of their series, Greb was blind in one eye and past prime. Tbf, Tunney was a little green at the start of their series, but he was closer to his prime at that point, than Greb was his come the end of their series.
    3) Reporters felt their 2nd fight was a robbery. Had it been scored with the majority, then their series would have been drawn, despite Greb being smaller and past prime.
    4) Outside of their fights against each other, Greb has a substantially deeper win resume, easily the deepest in boxing history, imo.

What you've posted is a little bit like writing "Harry Wills since Sam Langford has been entered into the discussion".

I once heard someone say Joe Gans had a decent claim to being the greatest. Thoughts?

Oh yes I’m aware of that.
A shout for the greatest of all time though?
