Thanks for the video Rummy. I agree with your assessment that Hrgovic is the more skilled fighter and I believe as you imply that he also has the mental advantage and I question DuBois mental strength when the going gets rough, as demonstrated against both Joyce and Usyk. I do feel DuBois will last a bit longer, perhaps till the 7th or 8th.
I didn't think Hrgovic looked all that great against Zhang and question the level of his opponents in his last two fights after. While Hrgovic should win, something tells me it's not as clear cut as it seems on paper.
Hrgovic went 50/50 with Zhang... Which isn't nothing, but Zhang hasn't exactly beat the legit contenders of the day - he beat an overhyped Joyce twice, a good rather than exceptional win. It's worth pointing out that, on paper, Zhang's record against top 200 ranked fighters is quite literally 2-2-1... Or if you want to actually spin it negatively, he's failed to beat 3 out of the 4 top 200 fighters he's fought. Then you have the fact that Hrgovic hasn't really beaten anyone else of note as a pro either - and that to the extent he should win on paper, it's tracing paper and his resume is every bit as thin as it. Hrgovic looks like he's a good boxer and he hasn't had losses yet - Dubois has, but he's also been fighting against a much better level of opponents... As you say, it might well not be the foregone conclusion that a lot of people are predicting - maybe it will, but I don't think it should be assumed as such.
Anyone who thinks Dubois is a quitter needs to think again, he's young and should take as minimal damage as possible if it's not a winnable fight. Against Joyce, his eye almost popped from the socket and "fans" wanted him to continue. Lol He was literally overwhelmed against usyk, if he stood, he would have ended up like Ngannou. Someone tell me why he should get killed when he's still such a young lad. He will definitely be one of the top guys after the Fury era.
I think the big factor for me in this is that Hrgovic has the better chin, taking more than a few bombs of Zhang, whereas Dubois, although he showed much better fortitude against Miller, he is probably going to suffer more from Hrgovic shots than the other way round.
I completely agree, it was pointless to continue against Joyce... He was badly injured and could've been much more seriously hurt if he'd carried on. Against Usyk... Yes, he was clearly outmatched - he only had two chances of winning (or "winning") that fight: a punchers chance, or getting away with a lowblow. He obviously thought the latter was his best chance, and it was clearly his primary tactic - the referee was (unusually) switched on and making correct calls... Essentially reducing Dubois to a punchers chance only - outmatched as he was, he still had that punchers chance and shouldn't have quit. Against Hrgovic... If he's losing clearly on points AND lands a bunch flush on Hrgovic's chin and doesn't make a dent... Would you support him quitting to avoid taking damage from the rabbit punches? Or should he carry on and stick it out? There's plenty on here that are harder on him than me - but he really can't afford to quit again. Personally, I think this will be closer than many think, which makes it less likely he quits - but we'll see!
Hrgovic is a bit untested, but he seems to have the tools to.win this. Wouldn't surprise me if its's quite even after eight rounds, though. But I think Hrgovic wins down the stretch, could well by KO.
I don't think it's an easy fight or foregone conclusion Hrgovic wins. Hrgovic's career has been terribly mismanaged and he hasn't been given the right opponents at the right time to make the necessary improvements as he moves up through the levels. Yes he beat Big Bang albeit controversially but he hasn't really improved since the amateurs. He might even have regressed. Dubois hits extremely hard with both hands, is quick, skilled, puts his shots together really well and he has fought the better opposition as a pro I think overconfidence is a real possibility here for Hrgovic too what with him having already battered Dubois in sparring. I favour Hrgovic via stoppage but it's a very risky fight for both. Hrgovic's reach and chin advantage could prove to be the difference
Hrgovic wins this, Dubois has heavy hands and is strong as a bear, but Hrgovic should have a psychological advantage and will win by TKO...
I agreed with Rummy's video and believe Hrgovic has the definite edge , probably in a boring fight but your points are well made. Hrgovic hasn't really done anything with his win over Zhang as evidenced by his last two opponents , like he's using the Zhang fight as his Bona Fides for a title shot instead of staying active with good opposition. Dubois has to land the right hand for a chance at a win and it's not out of the question. Be interesting to see what the odds are going to be.
I favor Hrgović, because I think he has a much better chin. Others aside, Kevin Larena has shown that Dubois has, at best, an average chin. The other reasons are that I think Hrgović is "hungrier" to win, because this fight is his way to the title, and Dubois has already fought for the title. And I don't think only I, there are also my like-minded people, that Hrgović was in worse shape against Zhang. I think that Hrgović will not repeat such a mistake now.
You're right, though I'd still pick hergovic but I think Dubois has been underrated far too much. It will be a close and interesting fight like you said
