So, Louis has way more wins for the undisputed title, way more wins over top 10 ranked opp, way more wins over top 5 ranked opp and way more wins over top 1 ranked. Only one of these wins was controversial.

There really is no case for any of them, except some fantasy h2h.

What would you say his best wins were. Max and Buddy Baer were limited brawlers, Max Schmeling was past his best by the time he beat him and his only good win was over Louis himself, Conn was a good win but he was a light heavyweight, and Walcott was a great win but he clearly lost the first fight and was past his best by the time they fought. Even though they were ranked I don't really see any of his wins as super impressive until he beat Walcott. There's a reason the opponents during his title reign were considered Bums of the Month.

 

Holmes fought his number one contender a grand total of a single time, and in the second half of his reign flat out avoided anyone with a pulse.

 

The correct answer is Larry Holmes.

 

He still has a number of good wins Norton, Berbick, Cooney, Witherspoon, Marvis, Williams and Mercer are all solid wins and imo I thought he won the second Spinks fight. Who did he avoid exactly?

I have a soft spot for the era in question, so I might show a tad biased, not sure what you mean you say Shavers being talked about as a ATG, don't think I have seen that in print on here, mainly because its pappaley not true, and please don't put Joe Frazier and the " bum " in the same sentence, the era spawned 3 HWs that are in most posters top ten, and Ali is either 1 or 2 with everyone, as to Frazier boxing today, I wish he was, he exemplified all that is good about the HW champ, unlike the foul mouthed Fury, and his despicable father, while we are at it, did you really have to use your own distasteful remark , I suspect you are of a younger generation, so I will take that into consideration.
