Their's a fine line between good wins, and the greatest resume in heavyweight history.

As for who he avoided, Page and Thomas noticeably. He also avoided a Spoon rematch. The only reason he fought Witherspoon at all was because Witherspoon was a 15 fight prospect coming off a questionable decision over Snipes.

Holmes flat out admitted, he was going to avoid top competition at that stage in his career.

Louis has no real standout names, but he beat the best over during an almost 15 year period. Ali might edge him as nr
By god, no. And I see that someone even liked your post. What is happening here?

Not only did Holy make much fewer defenses, beat much fewer ranked opponents etc, he wasn't even that dominant in his wins. He struggled with old versions of Foreman and Holmes and even unranked Bert Cooper, then lost clearly to Bowe and just edged the rematch. Then lost the title again to a former LHW, just edged Mercer and got KO'd by Bowe and lost the trilogy. His domination of Tyson over two fights put a shine on his career, but he had neither the dominance nor the consistency that Ali and Louis had. The difference is huge.

Except that Marciano beat Louis and Holmes beat Ali. Not fantasy H2H but in actuality.

He lost to Lewis twice, lost to Bowe twice, lost to Moorer once, Holmes was over the hill, Foreman was over 40 as well.

This thread just make me realize even more how incredible the 70's were for HW's--best era of all-time! I was lucky to have been a youngster back then with the opportunity to "grow up" (so to speak) with all these great fighters and legendary bouts! A TON of wonderful memories!!

So you're having a nice little evening of trolling tonight, I see.

If you want a conversation with me you have to do better than that.

It's simple: you said that on resume ALi and Louis are #1, #2. In actual fact, Marciano and Holmes are 1 and 2 on resume.

I'm waiting for you to say "but, you see ..." and try to add some context to the wins that Marciano and Holmes hold over Ali and Louis.

At which point I come back and say "yeah, that's the argument I was making about Ali and his wins also needing context".

It's ok I understand that you understand where I'm coming from and you don't want to open up that can o worms.

You're forgetting ATGs like McCall and McBride who beat greats like Holmes and Tyson (who also beat Holmes). We could of course continue this stupidity of fighters that lost when they were shot all night but that's just a silly waste of time.

All you managed right now is to make yourself look stupid to anyone here reads your last two posts. Even more so than in the recent thread of Toney vs GGG, and that is saying something. Congrats. Bye.

If Joe Frazier was in his prime today, he’d be that guy who had unified the CW belts, starching Usyk with a right to the body along the way.

No sane coach would have a short 205lb dude fight at heavyweight unless it was a real edge case like a Mike Tyson, and Frazier isn’t an edge case. In fact, first order of business would probably be to shred him down to 6% body fat or so, see if it got him within dehydration/rehydration of fighting at LHW.

sorry. It’s just a weird convo to have about a guy who wouldn’t be a heavyweight today.

That's fair in terms of resume I don't think any heavyweight can beat Ali, but honestly watching both I'm much more impressed with Holmes then I am with Ali it feels like Ali got by with his toughness more so then his skills and when his physical qualities went away with age he looked awful whereas Holmes was competitive with younger fighters even when he was way past his peak.

Yeah, Frazier like he was in his own time probably wouldn't have been a HW today. Put him on Holy's HGH protocol or what Fury, Whyte, Povetkin and others have had he probably would be, though

Interesting thought with Frazier at LHW. Could be. He should be able to diet to down to 195 or perhaps even 190 and cut water from there. He wasn't the leanest of guys even in his prime.

You think 1979-1980 Holmes looks better than 1966-1967 Ali?
