What did you make of his career once it was all over with? Was this KO a fluke?

The funny thing is that British matchmakers still make the same mistake til this day. They import some nobody with a high KO % who ends up derailing their prospect.
Last big one that comes to mind is Warrington vs Lara. No idea why they picked Lara.

Luciano Abis was a decent EBU level guy with a solid fanbase and his handlers were grooming him for the world level. They were quite hopeful of him.
And then the then 9-18 Semjons Moroseks flattened him in the first round. Abis never quite recovered from that.

Oh, and 6 of Moroseks´ 9 wins came in a venue called Club Rigas Rings, which was a hub for literal record padding. It was basically fake fights for boxrec. Just to get some experience for the guys and to make them more attractive for bigger matchmakers.
And it worked, Moroseks and a few of his peers got some lucrative fights in Europe. Moroskeks ended upsetting a handful of decent guys. He was a lot better than his record suggests and it´s a shame that he retired so young.

With any real management, Moroseks could have been a solid EBU level contender himself.

Salgado TKO1 Jorge Linares. While not being actually Japanese, Linares was a Japan-based champion.

yeah. shocker. but then again...i think he was badly packaged but well managed. seen as a bomber and an exciting explosive

(also check martinez's fight before this one. carpet was rolled out for pickering to pull him apa...oh he got sparked out by a right straight.)

Honestly, i remember my local leisure centre rammed on an audley and nicky cook card but the biggest pop from the crowd was he won the commonwealth title (admitedly after this fight). crisp, sharp, fast, hit hard, seemed full of energy and just seemed like a world class article. i think we in the uk had a different idea on how one performs in a boxing ring. A head down, high guard with a constant jab, great variety of punches.

but yeah. i think he was clearly packaged maybe unfairly. he would fight wayyy in the daylight of undercards. sky would edit the highlight reel stoppages and combination work. so you had this sort of idea in your head that he was a monster. then you see him in a 12 rounder or against somone who was confident in their abilities and sort of realise this wasnt going to happen.

    tl;dr version:
ko: seemed impossible. otherworldy, against the will of the universe event.
career:should of been put in tougher and more varied in the early stages and matched softer in the later years.

    short story time.

Tye Fields a later bloomer any promoter would say to hide the clear lack of technique. but hey, massive, southpaw, athletic and swarming constantly. a unique product. come round 2007/8 the heavyweight division is probably at it's lowest ebb of talent. and fields has built a following in las vegas and got a streak going against some pretty low but productive fighters. mo harris

here he comes against both old and shopworn Monte Barrett.

Jose Luis Lopez vs Eamonn Loughran
    Daniel Jiminez vs Harald Geier

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if Geier would have been favored over Jimenez.

But McLarnin vs Corbett III does qualify, since it was held in Corbett's home state of California.

Edit: Someone already mentioned Indongo vs Troya.

Pretty crazy that Tye was 41-1 at the time. Sure, most of his resume was filled by cans, but he still beat experienced guys like: Tank Williams, Maurice Harris, old as dirt Bruce Seldon and Nicolai Firtha.
Just shows how far athleticism and size can take you in heavyweight boxing.

Don Steele was 41-0 with 41 knockouts at one time. Sheer numbers don't mean much in boxing, which is doubly true for the heavyweight division.

yeah i do remember some people with avatars of him. i think the boredom of wlad stemmed this idea that a new corrie sanders had to be found...a great non-eastern europe hope i guess. and a swarming southpaw like him might of been the trick.
