Always had a soft spot for Mauricio Martinez vs Esham Pickering. Pretty brutal one, face plant and count being waived & everything. Time flies. What are some of your favorites or notable matches? This content is protected
Had one recently, with Kenbun Torres blasting out Raymart Gaballo in the opponent's backyard. * Jose Luis Lopez vs Eamon Loughran * Daniel Jiminez vs Harald Geier
Breidis Prescott-Amir Khan Maybe a little lower level than the ones already mentioned, but Jorge Maysonet stopped Hugh Kearney in his backyard in the first round. The fight lasted 20 seconds.
Used to have a copy of the Maysonet/Kearney bout in terrible quality. I find Maysonet to be a interesting if obscure fighter.
Tommy Morrison vs. Michael Bentt. Morrison was raised in Jay, Oklahoma. After beating George Foreman for the WBO Heavyweight Title, Morrison decided to make a defense in front of family and friends in nearby Tulsa. HBO World Championship Boxing televised the event. Michael Bentt was a lowly 10-1. He'd been KOed in one round in his pro debut by Jerry Jones. Prior to that, Bentt was a top US amateur. He was favored to win the gold medal at the 1988 Olympics, but he lost his spot on the team to Ray Mercer. By the time he stepped in the ring with Morrison, Bentt was largely forgotten. Morrison was dropped three times and lasted all of 93 seconds.
I figure this counts. Embarrassing stuff, getting blown out in a round by a chubby light heavy tomato can. This content is protected
I may be recalling it incorrectly…but didn’t Morrison have Bentt in major trouble before he himself was suddenly KO’d?
I just remembered, Jhonny Gonzalez/Abner Mares! Watched it live after describing Gonzalez as a "nuclear" puncher to a friend.
Jorge had heavy rotation on Puerto Rican TV in his early career, thanks to his promoter Ivonne Class having a television show on Canal 11 in which she also announced her protege's fights (imagine Don King doing...wait..he did do that too!) He fought Simon Brown for the world title in Warsaw I think, (or was it Istanbul or Sofia or Bucharest or Budapest?) in what was promoted as the first world title fight in a red curtain country. He gave a good account but was overpowered in three rounds.
I have a copy of the Brown/Maysonet bout. Good little scrap for as long as it lasts. Brown was scary good in his prime. Hell, he was damned good past his prime. This content is protected
Jimmy Carruthers-Vic Toweel Brutal demolition of the undefeated World champion by unknown Australian challenger in South Africa in a huge upset.
He may have stunned Bentt and had him on the ropes, but I don’t think Bentt was seriously hurt. Tommy got too eager and got clocked right down the middle.
