I would think the first port of call would be to the imagine the fighters who would be able to survive Miami Liston through to 4-5 rounds.

Sonny did not train for a long fight so doors would open up for a few choice opponents who were still standing and not irreparably damaged by that stage of the fight against that exact, same version of Liston.

Bangers like a young Foreman or Tyson might actually be a preferable fit for Sonny - in so far as matters being sorted out either way, in short order before Liston’s limited stamina came into play.

Against that pair, whether they would be sufficient to end the fight or my, I think Liston could more likely get his best shots home far more easily than he did against the wraith like Ali - whose speed and evasive mobility was extraordinary and wholly unique up to that time and thereafter, based on Miami and the balance of his first tenure as Champ in the 60s.

Though it doesn’t fit the exact prescription for the question - even the 1960 version of Machen
might hope to do a lot better against Miami Liston - with Liston being that much older, relatively inactive and not conditioned or mentally prepared for the long haul of a 12-15 rounds.

Agreed. Guys who we wouldn’t necessarily favour to do it, but who certainly could, we have to remember Ali wasn’t favoured to do it either.

You know that you could be a big help to this new poster with little boxing knowledge by educating him on some of the fighters from the past. I have been watching pro boxing since 1965.

pretty much all my posts have been asking for knowledge... im trying to learn who people think is good and who isnt. Iv seen a lot of opinions on my very short time on this forum and some of them i dislike. I make my opinion known so i can have a discussion with the person i disagree with and can either cement my opinion or find a new perspective. You have no right to make a judgement on me.

I love classic boxing. Modern boxing is so lame... its all about genetics. What was it like being alive to watch some of the best bouts ever? What was the public opinion on Ali turning on/mocking Fraizer after he got his license back?

Meat riding means agreeing with someone and kissing ass. I disagreed with you in my first post. PLEASE leave with this obvious rage bait/lack of reading comprehension etc... Watch a bit more and lurk before posting some BS after 2 months.

Are you a boomer or something? Meat riding has 2 uses. Your use and can also be used to shame someone for randomly being an ass “why is this guy meat riding me rn?” I have posted 0 rage bait and your the first person on the forum to have an issue with me, everyone else has been cool.

When Muhammad Ali refused military induction in April 1967, Ali was not stripped of just his title but his boxing license by the New York State Boxing Commission, which if they suspended your license, you could not box anywhere. It was cool to watch all of the past greats live on television, live television was free back in the 1960's, this was way before the current costly pay per views. Most of Ali's title defenses from 1965-1967 could be seen on ABC's Wide World Of Sports. As for Ali mocking Joe Frazier, it was not cool, Frazier went as far to see then U.S president Richard M. Nixon to lobby at getting Ali's boxing license back, so that they could meet in a Super Fight as Joe Frazier was the undisputed champion in Ali's absence. Frazier went as far as to loan Ali some money as Ali had not fought in the ring since defending his title against WBA no.1 contender Zora Folley on March 22 1967 in Madison Square Garden, his 9th title defense before being indicted for refusing military induction. All of Ali's earnings came from lecturing on the college circuit, his earning were used to pay attorney's to keep him out of jail while his Draft Evasion charge played out in the Federal Courts on appeals.
