After round one, he was well in control, Usyk couldn't get past his jab and into effective range Then all of a sudden in round 7 or whatever, Fury just stopped throwing punches and was just a walking punch bag really No conspiracy theories just looking for ideas as to why. Was it some adjustment Usyk made? I feel like Usyk kinda switched up his speed and got even faster and was able to get inside easier. Or did Fury gas? Or what happened? The amount of times I kept shouting at Fury to just throw something, guess he couldn't hear me through the TV
It could quite easily have been mental exhaustion. He was getting very little opportunity to switch on and off with Usyk stalking him around the ring. We've seen it with Bellew and AJ, the tempo catches up.
Usyk happened. They are both hi-level fighters capable of making adjustments in a fight. Usyk edged it based on the knock down/beat down round.
What actually happened is he took a 6 inch height, 8 inch reach and 40lb weight advantage into the fight and got beat by the man with the heart and class advantage.
Gassed. Put a lot into winning the middle rounds and then Usyk did was he always does and absolutely dominated the back end of the fight.
He got caught, maybe got his nose broken, got an egg on his cheekbone, then the following round almost got KOd Looked like he had less on his punches following his recovery, but was more to do with the damage he took than stamina IMO.
Usyk has some of the best stamina ever seen in the division and Fury’s stamina is great for a man his size but between the broken nose and the pace that Usyk sets I think it caught up to Fury in the last 3rd of the fight. Fury doesn’t treat his body like a temple and when fatigue sets in you get sloppy. Usyk really is the rabbit. His stamina is the little talked about key to his greatness.
Getting dropped didn’t help. But I agree after the 6th round he started fighting at like 70% of his ability and abandoned the body shots. It was weird because during round 5 and 6 it seemed like he was winning easy. He took his foot off the gas too early. Honestly maybe he had expected more of an effect by round 6 and he had expected to at least drop Usyk and he was thinking now it would go 12 rounds and he was trying to take a few rounds off to save energy and got caught. If he had just kept doing for another 2 or 3 rounds what he had been doing he could have given Usyk the rest of the fight and still have won. Fury was also a bit too sportsmanship like during the fight. Touching gloves even apologizing at some point. That’s just out of character.
Fury has a habit of switching off and losing focus when on top and thinking he could cruise it,the nose damage in the 7th iirc was the turning point and Usyk seemed to take over from there. Not taking nothing from Usyk but Fury show boating and switching off lost him rounds he could have won and led to the damage that imo ultimately cost him the fight,I’m not even going to address his father giving advice in the corner over Sugar !
