I know that. I know the great big guys like Ali, Holmes, Foreman, Johnson and Louis, as well as the great small guys like Ebihara, Kingpetch, Olivares, Davilla and Perez. Still don't see how he is not top 100 based on accomplishments. Beat the strongest CW division ever, and now has 3 wins over the top 2 HW's of his era, both of whom could be reasonably ranked in the top 30 all time at HW, while also having a 20-40 lb disadvantage. He is also the second man to become undisputed at CW and HW. I get not having him at the top 30, which is a very exclusive group which might barely include guys like Hagler and Chavez, but not being at the top 100 is absurd to me.
He's top-2 at cruiserweight. I couldn't say where he ranks at heavyweight, however. He's clearly Holyfield-esque in his trajectory, but has far less meat on the bone, resume wise.
If he retires right now and calls it a day, he is around Holyfield in terms of heavyweight rankings. If he holds on to the title for a few years, we be talking about him in terms of Marciano or Dempsey greatness, cant see him reaching that Louis/Ali level though.
You can make a case for Usyk being top 10 in terms of accomplishments at HW. Especially if you factor in his cruiser days. As far as all time rankings, he has a hell of a resume. Gold medal, undisputed in 2 divisions, undefeated. That's a Hollywood movie quality career. I'd put him in the top 100 and he is a guaranteed hall of famer.
Undefeated, first four-belt cruiserweight champ, first four-belt heavyweight champ, mostly did it in other guy's backyards, and never even been off his feet. The Ultimate Giant Killer. And don't give me any **** about not having the fights, because, yeah, he needed less than 25 fights to do it, and that is badass! Up there with Robinson, Greb, Armstrong, Langford, Duran, Leonard, Ali, Louis, etc. He's one of the pantheon.
BS! I'm not on something but what you said above is reasonable. Holyfield went to wars against big name fighters at the H.W. Division a lot more than Usyk did. Nobody can't deny that. The only thing that Usyk is better than Holyfield is he's still undefeated at the moment. They both are great after all.
I think Usyk has surpassed Holyfield which I never thought would happen. Yes Holyfield fought in a better era but Holyfield always struggled with the genuine super heavyweights of his era in Bowe and Lewis. Usyk in contrast has beaten the giants of his era, Usyk I feel is a more rounded fighter who unlike Holyfield doesn't get caught up into having unnecessary brawls. Usyk's consistency and focus is something Holyfield lacked, Usyk never loses to a Moorer in his prime.
Let us wait until he retires before judging Usyk. It has been a 'so far so good' tale from the Ukranian.
top 30 all time p4p #1 Cruiser # top 20 at heavyweight. Not a top 10 heavyweight. Resume has some good wins but not enough depth. I wish he started his pro career in 2008.
#1 Cruiser. Heavyweight is harder to assess. His resume is super short at heavy, but beating AJ and Fury is big. I think that this HW era is mostly filler, but the top guys are legit. I think that H2H and on the eye test he is a top heavy in any era but I don't think he can reasonably be ranked super highly based on his short resume.
I think it is worth noting that with the 200 pound cruiser limit and rehydration, some of the "cruisers" he beat would have been massive heavies in the past, so for anyone who proudly has a head to head component in their ratings, those are legit wins for heavy. Also, Holmes was beaten by a LHW, Ali badly knocked down by 185 pound Cooper...you can go through the list here.
All you guys were so quick to call Fury and Joshua ATG and said they'd beat everybody ever H2H for years and years and now that a little 37 year old cruiserweight has proven himself to be THE best heavyweight of his era as an undeniable fact, you won't extend him the same courtesy?
As a cruiserweight, he rivals Holyfield. At heavyweight, there's a whiff of Gene Tunney about him. With only 6 fights to his name, I can't in good conscience rank him as an ATG, even if he did display greatness in his brief stint. As a H2H force, he's a beast. Resume wise, he's top 30, I guess (at heavyweight, not P4P).
