nah it wasn’t close. I urge to watch it again. On second watch Fury wins rounds 4, 5 and 6 definitively, with rounds 2 and 3 being close Usyk rounds that could have maybe gone to Fury if he was lucky. So scores probably should be between 7-5 Usyk + 1KD best case for Fury with 9-3 Usyk + 1KD being the more likely.

Usyk probably beats him easier in the rematch. The superstar boxer nearly always does hey!

yes. and easier. hes got the reach, and he has the power advantage, so it benefits him to trade hooks with fury. their speed is about the same, but fury is more fluid. that could be because fury throws more of a slapping hook while aj tries to get more leverage on it..

 

I agree it wasn't close I had Usyk 5 rounds up, but the scorecards didn't reflect the competitiveness of the actual fight. I wouldn't right Fury off in the rematch, he made Usyk dig deeper than he has ever had to before, Fury in those middle rounds was in control and had Usyk looking vulnerable for the first time in his career, but he couldn't maintain it and more importantly he didn't have another gear unlike Usyk.

If Fury comes in fitter next time and can maintain a higher and more consistent work rate and not fade late he could make it a much closer fight.

 

Yeah weirdly second time watching it, it didn’t feel as competitive. The biased commentary really influenced me first time round, rounds 4, 5 and 6 were big Fury rounds but rewatching Usyk was never really in too much trouble. That’s as competitive as it got.

 

I absolutely agree. When ranking fighters, you can't just take yesterday's result into account. The whole body of work needs to be considered.

Joshua has more title fights and more title defenses than Fury, against more quality opposition. Fury never defended more than one belt. Fury never knew the pressure of being unified/undisputed, the pressure of fighting mandatories one after the other. He only knows what it feels like to be a protected and pampered champion who doesn't get a mandatory ordered for over two years. Fury's wins over a very limited Wilder made him look better than he actually is as Wilder was exposed by Parker just a few months ago–and it was Joshua who took Parker's 0 all those years ago. Apart from Wilder, Joshua beat everyone on Fury's resume—and more. He beat their common opponents more decisively. There was no stinking up the house with the worst tippy-tappy, boring title fight against Wlad. He stopped Wlad and sent him into retirement. Wlad didn't want a rematch against Joshua, while Fury run from Wlad when he wanted a rematch. Also, Joshua stopped and took the 0 off a still unbeaten, fresh, dangerous Whyte. He took the 0 off Parker, who just decimated Wilder, the very guy who had the biggest role in Fury's overinflated stock. He took the belts back, avenging his loss straight away—while Fury is already just happy 'to consider options instead of immediately demanding a rematch.' Joshua destroyed Wallin and Ngannou, two opponents whom Fury struggled against in the past few years. Also, Joshua has wins over the likes of Pulev and Povetkin, where Fury was always just happy to pose himself as better than anyone anyway, and never responded to the challenge from Joyce, Hrgovic, Bakole, Dubois, Sanchez, Ruiz, and Zhang, even though all of them challenged him in the past 12 months.

And while Fury did better against Usyk, it also needs to be taken into account that Fury still hasn't won more than four rounds against Usyk either, and was never hurt that badly. Fury was practically knocked out, while Joshua was close to being stopped by Usyk in the twelfth round of their first fight. Fury was in a world of pain and trouble, getting punched from pillar to post, stumbling across the ring from rope to rope, with the referee saving him.
Long story short, Fury is not even third at the moment. In the last 24 months, he had three fights: against the corpse of Chisora instead of facing Usyk, against an almost 40-year-old MMA guy with zero boxing experience who put him on his arse, and against a middleweight midget who practically knocked him out. Fury is now in the wasteland of the division. Not only does he have to face Usyk again and avoid getting beaten again, but the question of just how good he is and how he could fare against the top 10 is more relevant than ever before.

Exactly right. Fury won 4 rounds. Arguing he won more would be pushing it; you need to feel very generous to even give him 5. And I don't think that a 36-year-old Fury who just had six months to prepare can get any better in any way. I don't understand these 'Tyson needs to be better for the rematch' remarks. Better how? If he is any lighter, he won't be as strong in the clinches and won't have the same firepower. His legs won't get faster at this age, his punch resistance won't improve. What we saw last night was the absolute best Fury could do at this age.
Before Usyk switched into another gear around the seventh round, nobody would have said, "oh, there will be a rematch; Tyson needs to improve." Everyone who says 'Fury could and should do better next time' was very happy with this needs-to-be-improved version of Fury in rounds four, five, and six, right? This whole two bites at the cherry phenomenon is also stalling the division. Don't get me wrong, I'd love nothing more than seeing Fury hurt and bloodied by Usyk once again. But I'd prefer to see Usyk racking up more quality wins as a heavyweight in the limited time he has left in the sport. I want to see him against Hrgovic, Zhang, Kabayel, Parker, and others. Guys with different styles, younger guys, guys with different strengths.

3) Don't do backseat moderation, it's small d..k energy and you're lucky that it's allowed around here in the first place.
4) Respond with actual arguments or don't waste my time.
5) There are three paragraphs in there anyway.
6) I don't see you moaning about how others post, even though there are plenty of people posting much longer bodies of texts without a single line break. So it's clear that you have a bone to pick with me (for whatever reason), just put on your big boy pants and say it instead of crying about paragraphs.

The condescending passive-aggressive way of 'mind using' you chose to put it was anything but constructive feedback written with genuine intentions. Let's not pretend we can't read between the lines. There are several ways you could have worded it to not sound like a bitter person, looking to pick a fight. You opted for this one for a reason. And I'm not too bothered about how many people read what I write. Based on my interactions, it's plenty enough. If you won't be one of them from now on because of some paragraphs (or the lack of them), I'll be fine, mate. I wasn't even here in the past six months so this place or how many many people read what I post here is hardly a priority in my everyday life anyway.

 

Yes, Usyk from 2021 looked clearly faster than he did last night. I think it might be partly due to the fact that its was a different fight with the much, much taller Fury backing away behind a jab, but not really surprising if he's lost some speed between 34 and 37.

And, yes, AJ should be nr 2 now with Fury coming off a close call against a novice and now a loss. Joshua doing so much better against Ngannou also helps his case.

But to get a true decider about who's the nr. 2 HW of this generation, they have to face each other. I hope that happens next year.
