    A heads up

There is an excellent HD version of the film of Dempsey-Firpo on you tube under

"Jack Dempsey vs Luis Angel Firpo--HD Documentary--Rare Footage"

Clearest I have seen by far with analysis, slow motion, etc. My system is not able to bring it over.

Excellent analysis of Dempsey getting knocked out of the ring and getting back in, and how long it took him.

Wonderful. It’s not widely known but Firpo went into this bout with a freshly put back into place dislocated left elbow. The fight doctor snapped it back into its socket the morning of the fight.

Fury would have pulled out if it had happened a year before the fight.

For 2 rounds, why 11 cuts??? I wish there was a more complete version out there.

You can clearly see in the HD version that the sports writers at ringside quickly assembled a ladder and carried Jack up (unconscious over the shoulder like a sack of potatoes) and over the ropes and propped him up for the referee to see him on his feet and let it continue.

That was epic. I follow the fight film guy on YouTube but I hadn’t checked his page since the Marciano interviews two years ago. Great job well done.

Any idea how the initial injury happened?

    Thanks! Will watch later.

From all the footage I’ve seen before - when having his hand raised at the end, Dempsey is well bruised, looks out of it and is still, clearly, wavering on his feet.

Otherwise, I’ve always been impressed by the unmistakable power Dempsey carried in that swishing left hook.

I’m not saying Firpo’s chin was granite - but damn, it seemed whenever Dempsey “swished”, Luis either staggered or was on the deck yet again!

Jack was clearly rusty, but if viewed as a deliberate “handicap” to make it more competitive, it certainly made for a great 2 round punch up.
