If roles were reversed, the ref would have waved the fight off or let them continue. Usyk had his arm cocked, I’m sorry he didn’t let that punch fly.

There are a bunch of posters on this forum that get all pious when their guy wins on a dodgy stoppage. Start getting sanctimonious about how dangerous a job this is, etc...wonder how many of em' started singing a different tune quite recently? Like 20 hrs ago or so?

Fell FULLY. He was still stumbling about and bouncing off/along the ropes before falling fully (legs no longer under him), which is when the ref stopped for his 8 count. Go watch it again.

8 count is also as long as the ref deems necessary, not exact seconds. See Fury Wilder 1...

Fury survived only because the ref intervened and gave an 8 count that lasted 25 seconds. One more punch and fury would have been slumped between the ropes and counted out

Had the ref not intervened, one more punch from Usyk may well have sent Fury down, but we can't know that for sure. Just like we can't know if Usyk would have beat the count had the ref ruled the "Low blow" on Usyk from Dubois good.

These are thing we'll never know for sure, but chances are Fury probably goes down from another big Usyk punch if the ref didn't step in, I said as much last night. However even if Usyk sent him down with another punch, that wouldn't mean that Fury would have been knocked out. Knowing Fury, he probably gets up and survives just the same.

This is true and he was a champion too with a good history of recovery, but the judges were way off for me.
They were looking for a split draw but didn’t have enough fudge to fiddle it for fury.

That may well have played in the mind of the referee there, but you can't deny that if the ref had done what some think he should have done, to call it off instead of giving him a standing 8 count, it would have been a huge controversy, and Fury would have had a legitimate reason to claim he was robbed. Had the ref called it off, the vast majority of fans would have called it a premature stoppage, people would have been criticizing the ref far more than they are now. If it's a debate between whether or not the ref should have stepped in to give a standing 8 count or if he should have let it continue without giving a standing 8 count, which probably results in Fury hitting the canvas, and then Fury probably gets up and sees the end of the round. If you don't think he should have stepped in to give the 8 count, then what would you rather the ref do, waive it off right there with him slumped on the turnbuckle or allow Usyk to land another shot to send him down?

The standing 8 count is really a middle ground between the two other extremes. And to those (like lordy) who claim that if the ref was going to give a standing 8 count, he should have done it earlier, as Fury was flailing around from rope to rope, that's a failure to acertain the level of trouble that Fury was in. When he was hurt and flailing around, he still had his wits about him, he was still moving around intelligently, it wasn't until he crashed into that turnbuckle slumped over that the ref (correctly in my view) became convinced that the threshold of a standing 8 count had been reached. But to those that disagree, and think the ref should have handled it differently, feel free to make your case (even lordy) but I don't think you can make a better case for what the ref should have done than what he did, which was perfect refereeing in my view. Giving a standing 8 count when he did was not controversial at all, though some will try to make it so.

I don't know about most the folks here who take issue with the ref, but my problem with him was him getting in Usyk's way numerous times when he was in the middle of beating Fury's ass.

I get that most wanted Usyk to win but I have never seen more support for wanting a fight to be stopped usually it's complaining a fight was stopped too early.
