I will agree with you his resume def better than Tunney. He also has just as good. Resume as Marciano. He should retire as he has nothing left to prove. Have u learned anything in regards to over rating size yet? Edit if I had to slight edge I’d edge it out to Marciano for maybe one or two extra better wins but it’s close. I don’t discount his cruiser weight wins as most of them would b heavier then a lot of guys Rocky even fought.
Yes, a fighter as big as prime George Foreman can narrowly defeat a washed-up cokedhead superheavyweight. Lesson learned.
Tunney wouldn't even be in my top 20 Heavyweights of all time so that's not really a startling revelation to me.
I've seen some lists in these parts, even by so-called historians, that would shiver you to the bone.
Tunney didn't do jack **** at HW other than beat the ghost of Dempsey. He's comparable to Michael Spinx and both are inferior to Usyk.
Now Fury is a washed up coke head? He was the best ever not that long ago in ur eyes. Haven’t been around awhile I wonder what changed? Usyk was two years older at 37. They both looked good in this fight although both out of prime.
Usyk as an ATG? Debatable but possible. His resume as CW is fine and you can make a case. But his resume as HW lacks deep. Regardless all the hype, Chisora, Joshua and Fury are not exactly a Murderers' row. If Usyk stays as HW top dog 2-3 years, beating all comers, then sure he would have a solid case as HW ATG. Anyway, Usyk is already 37 and maybe he will retire soon, thus not a lot of time left to nurture his resume. In any case I will be forever glad Usyk ended the Fury Circus...
Neither Dempsey, Tunney, Marciano or Liston beat someone as dangerous as Joshua, let alone twice. And his resume already has more depth of quality than those.
****ing hell i spent about an hour thinking about this without seeing this thread and nearly opened this same thread @Seamus. Yeah, he's ahead of Tunney, it's not close. Still languishes some distance behind him so far as p4p ATG lists go though. Is this the first time we have a p4p #1 that's a heavyweight since Tyson, aye?
I think I’d agree on Gene Tunney, Gene would beat him but he didn’t do as much. Ezz and Rocky I’d need to look at but you’ve got a point. Glad to see an active heavyweight that can be argued into the top 15-10. Last one was Wladdy.
Much of Tunney's resume is fluff as was all of the boxers of the day. Greb had what? 3,000 fights? Many of them were against the local or regional yokel. However, Greb did defeat something like 11 HOFers. Tunney: Carpentier, Tommy Laughren, Dempsey, Battleing Levinsky, maybe more?) Greb was his biggest notch before he met Dempseu. He lost the majority of the fights against Greb, not just the first one. Newspaper decisions most of the time, and most newspapers had him losing to Greb in 3 out of 5 of the fights; only the last one did he truly beat Greb. And it must be noted that he fought ZERO black boxers for which there are no excuses whatsoever. Tunney fought in most likely the weakest HW time. Of his opposition at HW, which HOFers' did he beat? We don't know now, but we can guess AJ and Fury will get in, that's about it I think. I think I can put Usyk in the top 15 HW, top 2 at CW. Tunney is top 20 HW.
