A name along those lines that pops into my head is Melton Bowen. Very game guy. Even his match with a old Tony Tubbs had two knockdowns! The Thunder and Carl Williams bouts were both very fun brawls.

James Kirkland he was the modern day version of Frank The Animal Fletcher they were both Southpaws both fought at the same weightclass and both fought in a very similar manner overly aggressive but could be a bit vulnerable which made them very exciting.

Arturo Gatti and his frequent dance partner Mickey Ward
are poster children for this topic.....
But theirs been so many over the years
    Bobby Chacon
    Bazooka Limon
    Jorge Paez
    Boza Edwards
    Frank Fletcher
    Curtis Parker
    James Green
    Tyrone Crawley
and damn near every ranked Philly / Jersey Middleweight
from the 1940's s through the early 90's.....

Guys like Chacon are waaaaay better fighters than what I was asking for here. In what universe is Chacon a average or poor fighter? He had a lot of flaws but come on.

You know I was debating that in my mind right.
Chacon wasn't great, but he was a good fighter,
same with Boza Edwards and Paez.

I think being a world champion probably disqualifies 95% of fighters from the poor/average discussion. Not much occurs at the very top of boxing by sheer luck or happenstance.

I was honestly thinking about fighters along the lines of Bobby Crabtree. Fighters that make up the majority of the next tiers records.

I'm pretty sure @Russell was suggesting fighters that were gatekeeper or journeyman status. Fighters that weren't world class level and didn't win a major title at all. Guys like Gatti, Chacon, Boza, Paez, Limon were title holders so they wouldn't meet the criteria.

Yeah I was thinking of a tier of fighter way below what most people are bringing up, haha.

Philadelphia makes tough fighters simple as that.
