Against Usyk right now he is clearly the underdog. But in 2 years time it might be different. I would rate him as a favourite against Kabayel though. I doubt he faces Fury or AJ, they are previous era and on the way out. Hrgovic has been number one contender for one of the belts for a while now and neither have faced him. Let’s face it Hrgovic is 31 and doesn’t have any miles on the clock in the ring. It will get interesting in the next 5-6 years.
I know you are just answering the OP, but everyone is a clear underdog to Usyk; he shouldn't be stalling out a mandatory challenger for years Yeah, people forget the IBF mandated the final eliminator with Hunter in February 2022. Now with Usyk v Fury 2 delayed until December 2024, that will be...(Quick Google)... 1,032 days Remember the outrage in the newspapers and across the internet for Dillian Whyte. It's crickets or excuses regarding Hrgovic
He's good. He's a huge unit, physically strong, very good technical skills, hits hard, excellent chin, and he has a great amateur pedigree. The problem is, due to being mismanaged, bad luck, being avoided and not being given the right fights at the right time against the right levels of opponents to help him develop and improve, he hasn't really improved as a pro. If he had the kind of backing, training team and set up, and opportunities as AJ has had he would've been much better than he is now. He hits hard but I think his power is something that can be improved with the right S&C training. The right hand he discombobulatized McKean with sounded like a bomb detonating and like he put his full power into the shot but a lot of his shots are arm punches.
Hrgovic beat Zhilei Zhang How did previous challengers earn a title shot? Dubois - beat Trevor Bryan Whyte - beat Oscar Rivas Usyk - CW undisputed Pulev - beat Hughie Fury Breazeale - beat Eric Molina Povetkin - beat Christian Hammer (?) Joshua - bought the shot, but beat Whyte Parker - beat Carlos Takam (?) Fury - beat Christian Hammer Wilder - "beat" Malik Scott Hrgovic did more than most
TBH we don’t really know how good Hrgovic is,Zhang stepped up to fight him when others would not as he was the big bad Boogey Man of the division,Hrgovic got the nod but looked anything but special and imo Zhang should have got the win. Zhang has gone on to fight Joyce Parker and now Wilder, just look at what Hrgovic has done since !
I think Hrgovic carrer dont go quick way because no one need some arogant Croatian beat all this dudes... Can be wrong but I have no idea why Hearn for example dont give him more focus....
There is some truth in what you are saying, I also think Zhang won the fight. But officially Hrgovic won and I also recognize losing his dad can't be easy, and he is basically being sidelined by the popular fighters. Joyce v Zhang was a matchmaking error. Parker I'll be kind and say he wanted to beat the guy who beat him, but I gather he was offered the Hrgovic fight. My criticism of Hrgovic is he only wanted the rematch with Zhang once Zhang had the WBO interim, but he has at least been calling out his peers to fight
No doubt should Hrgovic beat Dubois he will be the big bad boogey man once more,we all know boxing is very fickle sometimes .
