Iv heard the opinion that Mike was a dirty fighter and I dont really know where this comes from... anyone who believes this willing to explain?
He was charitable to let Tyson continue after a blatant and disgusting foul … literally biting part of a guy’s ear off. And he told Tyson not to do it again or he’d be DQ’d … first thing Tyson did when they resumed was go right back to it. It’s called quitting. As for Tyson’s dirty tactics: Go watch the second Ruddock fight. He committed something like six different fouls for which he was warned in the first five rounds: low blow, hitting on the break, head butts (deliberate) … you name it, he did it. Go watch the Botha fight. Tried to break his arm. Elbowed him (like a strike with the elbow or forearm, I forget which). Go watch the McBride fight: Bit him on the chest. Tried to break his arm. Deliberate head butt. Go ask Lennox Lewis if Tyson’s a dirty fighter. Not because Mike fought dirty against Lennox, but because Mike showed him several dirty tactics and how to get away with him … basically ‘here’s how to cheat and not get caught.’ Ask Mike himself. Cheated drug tests by using a fake dick and filling it with his baby’s urine to get past the testers. Next to Mysterious Billy Smith, Mike Tyson is probably the dirtiest fighter in boxing history. But go ahead, tell us how he was the victim while doing all this.
A lot of fighters are dirty fighters, including Evander Headbuttfield himself. I'm not sure why people complain so much when Tyson is brought up. Not like he's known for his gentlemanly nature. It'd be like making a post asking if you think people need to reconsider how cunning snakes are, as if that isn't their main thing, likewise with Tyson's general disagreeableness and lack of moral fortitude lol.
All the top guys r a little dirty. As a matter of fact I can’t think of any champ who wasn’t a little dirty. That’s in every sport too. I’m ringing my brain to think of a clean fighter and I can’t think of any. Every damn champ was a little dirty some more than others. Walcott and Patterson were the only two who I can think of that weren’t that dirty. I’m sure they did stuff too
You thought of Walcott but Joe Louis didn’t come to mind!? There are many, many Champions who were cleanskins. They were in fact probably the majority overall.
Def wouldn’t say the majority. Joe Louis is a good one I agree there. But Ali, Holmes, Baer, Schmeling, Marciano, Holyfield, Lewis, Liston, Dempsey, Foreman, Tyson, Wlad, Charles, Fury off the top of my head were known for dirty tricks. Some more than others. I would say that’s a majority of HW champs
Absolutely he was a cheater but at the same time Mike Tyson was one hell of a fighter. Anyone can say what they like but the truth is Mike is a Icon and living legend. So for all the haters out there deal with it.
he was a dirty fighter, absolutely. Not quite like Holyfield, Hopkins or Wlad, but he fought dirty. especially after the Douglas fight. In his first 37 fights he probably got one or two warnings, in the next dozen or so he had plenty of them. After 1990 he became a dirty fighter, he fouled Rudddock, Holy, McNelley, Botha, Savarese, Norris, Golota and these were gross, obvious fouls. After the fight with Douglas, Tyson completely lost his mentality for sports competition
Tyson never walked thru the fire to win a fight...Tyson never came from behind to win a fight...and Tyson never got up off the deck...and then came back to win the fight...as all great fighters have done through out boxing history! Tyson wasn't mentally tough...when things didn't go Tyson's way...he became a different fighter...he fell apart! That's the truth!
think you should watch the fights with Bruno I, Tucker, Ruddock or Douglas and even with Danny Williams or Lennox Lewis but you are quite right, Tyson won many fights in a dominant way. I think Rocky Marciano would have laid with Spinks at least two or three times and would have been a complete mess, but maybe in his day he would have finally caught up with Michael, although I wouldn't put any money on it.
Despite what you wrote Tyson is still an icon and living legend and theres nothing you or anyone can do or say about it.
