I'd disagree about his skills. He's predictable in that he relies so heavily on the right hand, there is no variety to his work, hard to catch a fighter with a punch they don't expect when all you throw are hard right hands. He doesn't move his head, ate jab after jab despite being taller and with a 4 inch reach advantage. He's far too easy to hit which at heavyweight is always a red flag.

He's all offense no defence, so when he's able to dictate a fight he looks good but when he's forced to take a step back, that lack of defensive skills becomes apparent. I thought his chin would allow him to ride out a brawl with Dubois but Dubois exposed Hrgovic's power as less than advertised and then exposed his lack of stamina.

It's more than mental, it's about a lack of development and seasoning as a pro. He's fought one quality opponent his entire pro career the rest were mismatches and it cost him. The difference last night was Dubois was tested early and often in his career and improved, Hrgovic never improved, never added anything new to his arsenal since turning pro. Talent is there but talent doesn't do much if you do nothing with it.

People said the same about Parker then he changed trainers and learned to actually come in the ring with a real plan and strategy and suddenly he's reborn. Same thing could happen to Hrgovic, he isn't making the most of his talent, I'm sure he wants to succeed but he doesn't have the tools right now to make the most of his natural ability.

Kabayel does the same to Hrgovic as he did to Makhmudov, far to busy, tough as a Billy goat and saps energy with a great body attack. Jared Anderson similarly has the tools to make Hrgovic look rather silly. Zhang is back on track and if he's in shape, I'd favour him quite strongly so that just leaves Joyce, a win over which doesn't mean that much right now and is far from guaranteed.

I understand where the OP is coming from, I don't agree but I can see what he's thinking.

If Hrgovic can't beat Dubois and convincingly, then he's not picking up a belt anytime soon. So whats the point in continuing.

Dubois's not top of the division but he does have some ability. If you stand right in front of him, trade right hands and fade at the mid point of the fight. Your making it easy for Dubois.

Stamina, desire, coaching, career progression...etc. Right now Hrgovic doesn't win a belt. Regardless of potential there's better boxers around atm and he's playing catch up.

    Cabbage would annihilate him.

As would parsnips, udon noodles and fish fingers.

He should go back down to the amateurs and learn how to move around the ring or just retire.

Hrgovic has talent but doesn’t have the hunger or desire his fans do. The lack of competition has hindered him.

Hrgovic has no cardio and never looks bothered at whatever outcome.

    Exactly. Mechanical.

jab & then a right hand. maybe a windshield wiper swipe left hook. Then rinse and repeat. He threw a few uppercuts from way on the outside I thought Dubois should have beat him to the punch on. Other oppnents will.

No snap on that left hook is trouble waiting to happen as well.

Lots of improvements to make for someone his age. And for chump change purses.

Yeah, no need to actually have fights since we know how they're going to end.

Except for the fact that most of us don't. Most of us did not think Dubois would stop Hrgovic, or that Garcia would beat Haney, or that Ngannou would push Fury to the brink, or that Crawford would just not beat but totally dismantle Spence, or that Parker would quite easily beat both Wilder and Zhang. Hell, even Usyk was the underdog against Fury and I think Joyce was the favourite against Zhang.

And these are just over the last year.

Credit to you if you did (before the fact, not suddenly seeing it as a given after it), but most of us sure didn't and therefore have no reason to be as certain about the outcomes of above match-ups as you are.

He strikes me as somebody with all the physical gifts but none of the commitment or drive.

He's young enough to rebuild but he seems like more of an Andy Ruiz than an Anthony Joshua.

HW is shallow so he’s still in the mix. He needs to overhaul whatever training program he has going on and get in proper shape. He was gassed by the 4th round of the Dubois fight. Improve his defense, he gets hit way too much. Also should shift his offense to the body more rather than being a headhunter. The few times he went to body against Dubois he moved him back.

He's only 31, that's quite young for a heavyweight these days. Still pay days out there, and he can change things and try again.
